Marco Rubio’s Demons

Hillary can tolerate an adulterous husband, lose incriminating legal files (Remember Whitewater?), and illegally delete State Department emails, but she’s the media darling and the heralded champion of the middle class. New Republican candidate for President, Senator Marco Rubio has none of that baggage but has already been declared unfit for public office. His sin? He has somewhat regularly attended a church that actually believes in demonic possession and has been known to practice deliverance. Oh, the horror of it all to American’s liberal, progressive mindset. Imagine, someone running for our Nation’s highest office who actually believes in the devil and demons? To clarify my headline, of course, I’m not saying that Senator Rubio has demons, but that there are likely demons assigned to hinder him, aided and abetted by the liberal news media.

Rubio is officially Catholic but admits to also attending a congregation known as Christ Fellowship in the Miami area. Rick Blackwood, pastor of the Fellowship, has stated, “Satan’s agenda is to seduce people away from God. One of the ways that Satan accomplishes that is through what the Bile calls demonic possession. Satan’s angels can seize control of an individual and possess an individual physically, spiritually and even mentally.” Amen to that. Nothing strange. Just a belief taught by Christ and the Apostles and held by most of Christendom for 2,000 years. But because it doesn’t fit the humanistic motif of our age, it’s somehow outrageous. Screamed the headline of the Huffington Post, Marco Rubio’s Miami Church: Exorcism, Creationism, Anti-Gay Policies. Leaving aside the evolution and LGBT issues, what’s so wrong about believing in a real devil and real demons? Hollywood exploits it. The Pope emphasizes it to one billion plus Catholics. Even Muslims believe in Satan.

But here’s my main concern. What will the Christian community do? I’m not endorsing Rubio or any politician. I have no idea who I’ll vote for in the next Presidential election. (Okay, definitely not Hillary at this point.) The majority of pastors across America should be running to the defense of Rubio and Pastor Blackwood. But you and I both know that they won’t. It’s not evangelically P.C. But if the American church won’t defend Rubio now, when will they ever acknowledge the devil, demons, and demonic possession? I can assure you that this ministry will never be silenced on this matter. You can count on that, and know that you prayers and support are a good spiritual investment in an uncompromising stand against the devil and evil.

An encouraging word: UNDER THE FEET OF JESUS

Where is all evil? Where are your trials and tribulations? Where are the enemies of your soul? If you are a Christian, you are trampling on them with every step you take. Ephesians 1: 22 says, “God placed all things under His feet.” That is an amazing promise. If Christ is in you as a believing Christian, then spiritually speaking, all that is oppositional to your faith is under your feet. You are above your struggles, not below them. You can stomp on the attacks of Satan because the heel of Jesus has crushed the serpent’s head. Wherever you step today, do so victoriously putting everything under the feet of Jesus.

Transplanted Demons?

The photo above could represent a life-saving procedure to rescue a terminally ill patient who needs a new lung or liver. But what if the container held a human head? Would that seem so noble? Well, a 30-year-old Russian man, Valery Spiridonov, announced that he will become the subject of the first human head transplant.  Because his lower boy suffers a debilitating disease, he will have his head removed and installed on another person’s body.  A team of 150 doctors, led by an Italian physician, will perform the 36-hour operation to transplant Spiridonov’s functional head to a recipient who is brain dead but with a healthy body. Even if the head and body accept each other, what will happen to the brain? Critics suggest that with two sets of body chemistry uniting, the result could be some kind of new mental illness.  Spiridonov might live with a healthy body and have a crazy mind.

I also have to wonder: What if either the body or mind has demons? Will the body get the demons of the transplanted head? Will the head/mind/soul consciousness get the demons of the new body? Plus, the folly of submitting to such a procedure could combine the curses from both head and body to result in a life of unspeakable torment. Either way it seems like medical science, in this case, is playing God with Valery assuming the role of a Frankenstein-like existence, should he actually live. You have to wonder what other diabolically ingenious acts the devil has planned in a world were ethical boundaries are falling fast.

An encouraging word: HIS STRENGTH

When struggles come, where is the hope of a Christian? “You armed me with strength for battle,” Psalm 18:39 declares. Victory is nearer when we realize that we cannot do it on our own. The flesh is too weak. Our faith is often not sufficient. That’s when HIS STRENGTH takes over. He deals with the failures, betrayals, hurts, disappointments, pain, and losses of our lives. God knows the battle you are in today. He understands the frailty of your human condition. And he wants to equip you with His strength to survive and thrive. Let Him do it.

Satan’s Religion

“Terrorist groups who flagrantly use religion as a cloak to cover up acts of violent extremism cannot hid their serious ideological flaws. They reveal warped logic and ill-informed and unauthentic sourcing from religious texts as they try to justify what in reality is an insatiable desire for power, control and bloodshed.” Powerful words about ISIL/ISIS/IS, the Islamic terrorists who are murdering Christians and Muslims alike, across Syria, Iraq, and Kenya. Who made this remarkable statement? One can wish it were our President, but no. The spokesman was Dr. Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt. Who’s that? Allam is the highest official of Sunni religious law in Egypt, the branch of Islam claimed by ISIS. Though not Christian, Dr. Allam speaks with truthfulness about the perversion of religion, one of Satan’s most clever tactics.

In John 8:44 Jesus said that Satan was a “murderer from the beginning.” There never was any truth or goodness in the devil. Exalted angel that he was, the heart of Lucifer was somehow corrupted by pride and deicide was on his mind. Movements like ISIS, as Dr. Allam points out, are only looking for philosophical justifications to kill. It’s the same with individual killers. Most murderers behind bars think there was some justification for their evil. That was Cain’s logic. But the Bible takes it a step further. “Whoever hates his brother is a murder,” declares 1 John 3:15. And I’ll take it even further. One of the most common demonic openings for outright possession is hatred in the human heart. If you have unforgiveness toward someone who has wronged you, the logic of ISIS may be alive and well in your heart leaving an opening for Satan. Before you condemn the likes of ISIS, look first at your own heart to the anger and evil that may lurk behind the bitterness you’ve harbored.

An encouraging word: GOD GIVES THE VICTORY

Thanks be to God who gives us the victory! What a glorious declaration in 1 Corinthians 15:57. And that verse tells us how the victory is won: Through our Lord Jesus Christ. The world’s emphasis is on how YOU can have it all. YOU can win. YOU can succeed. YOU, YOU, YOU. Just watch those ads on TV telling you all that you deserve, and it’s usually what they are selling. But for the surrendered Christian, it’s all about wining through the victory that only the Lord can give. It is a good thing to be focused on being victorious. It’s even better when the triumph is credited to the One through whom all worthwhile winning is accomplished.

Antichrist is Here?

Neil deGrasse Tyson is everywhere these days. You can hardly escape his influence in the media. He’s an astrophysicist, cosmologist, and “science communicator,” plus Director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York. Pretty heft credentials. He rose to prominence last year in his retake of the 80s Carl Sagan Cosmos series, rechristened Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. As a media gadfly he has been an effective communicator for the forces of unbelief in America. Tyson says, “For me, when I say spiritual, I’m referring to a feeling you would have that connects you to the universe in a way that it may defy simple vocabulary. We think about the universe as an intellectual playground, which it surely is, but the moment you learn something that touches an emotion rather than just something intellectual, I would call that a spiritual encounter with the universe.” Now, if you understand what he’s saying, you tell me. Officially he claims agnosticism. Tyson says, “I’m not trying to convert people. I don’t care.” And he adds: “I remain unconvinced by any claims anyone has ever made about the existence or the power of a divine force operating in the universe.”

All this from one of the most influential thinkers of our time. In fact, he’s probably not THE Antichrist, but he is a precursor, a harbinger, preparing the way. Doubt me? Listen to some of his most outrageous quotes. He recently defended the diabolical cult of Scientology by a comparison of L. Ron Hubbard’s spiritual silliness to Catholicism. To The Daily Beast he said, “So, you have people who are certain that a man in a robe transforms a cracker into the literal body of Jesus saying that what goes on in Scientology is crazy?” So much for poking in the eye all devout Catholics. To Jews he said, “If you attend a Seder, there’s an empty chair sitting right there and the door is unlocked because Elijah might walk in. OK. These are educated people who do this. Now, some will say it’s ritual, some will say it could literally happen. But religions, if you analyze them, who is to say that one religion is rational and another isn’t?” With total stupidity for any sociological understanding of world religions he further opines, “It looks like the older those thoughts have been around, the likelier it is to be declared a religion. If you’ve been around 1,000 years you’re a religion, and if you’ve been around 100 years, you’re a cult.”

The devil has to love this. As for my accusation that Neil deGrasse Tyson is an Anti-Christ, listen to the words of 1 John 2:22: Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist. And in 2 John 7: For many deceivers are entered into the world who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

An encouraging word: CALL ON THE LORD NOW

Most humans like to believe that no matter how bad things are, the clouds will eventually have a silver lining. There will be light at the end of the tunnel. But for those lost without Christ, a day is coming when there will be no hope. David spoke of this in Psalm 18:41: They cried for help, but there was no one to save them . . . He did not answer. Even those who don’t believe in prayer usually cry out to God when tragedy strikes. But what if He weren’t there? Better call the Lord while you can, and not be as those who will someday realize that God WILL NOT answer no matter how much they plead.

Killing Christians

I’m disgusted, angered, and profoundly disturbed by the events of this past week. It was Easter. And timed perfectly for maximum effect, in Kenya, Islamic militants from Somali’s al-Shabaab branch of terrorism murdered 150 students of Garissa University in cold blood. They were deliberately selected apart from other students because they were Christians. All this approaching Good Friday. Killers stalked the campus looking for more victims. Bullets were sprayed indiscriminately. Carnage spread everywhere, except among Muslims. All this to establish an Islamic state. And our President gloats over a dangerous deal with Iran and won’t utter the word “Islamic.” Meanwhile, the news media was still obsessed, a week later, with the story of the Germanwings suicidal pilot. Nearly as many Christians died in Kenya as in those French Alps, but received not 1% of the news coverage, comparatively. To make matters worse, a major report surfaced from the credible Pew Research Center that in less than 40 years Muslims will outnumber Christians on a global scale. The chart below says it all (blue is Christian, red is Muslim).

If this isn’t a wake-up call, what is? I’m not suggesting a war against Islam, but a war for Christianity against our real Enemy, the devil. (He’s the Enemy of Muslims too, and all humanity.) North American churches must stop their market-driven mission and return to biblical basics. They also need to resurrect the almost archaic ideas of hell, demons, judgment, morality, and restore the role of faith in the political, social, and cultural arenas. My old friend Barry McGuire sang about the Eve of Destruction in 1965. I haven’t seen you for a while, Barry, but can you please bring that song back one more time? American really needs to hear it now!

An encouraging word: HAVE FEET LIKE A DEER

If it feels like trials and troubles are about to overtake you, note the promise of Psalm 18:33: He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. David was writing about escaping his enemies. He described the abilities that God gave him to allude his captors as being like the swift feet of a deer. Deer are fast, sure-footed, and maneuver almost anywhere without slipping. The can climb, dart quickly, and get away from most any predator. When you trust the Lord, that’s the way out of trouble that the Lord provides. No matter how well-laid the plans of your opposition may be, with the Lord on your side you can run away from the schemes of Satan like a fast-running deer.

Bono’s Boldness

I’ve always been skeptical of religious statements from pop stars. Like those foul-mouth rappers who get up at Grammy time and thank God for their success. Or low-cleavaged starlets who ooze gratitude to the Lord for making them famous. Bono got it right. Bono, leader of the U2, the band some say is the greatest of all time (Sorry, Mick.), has been known for his affinity regarding Christianity. But in a just-published interview he’s right out front with his faith. A boon from Bono. The sun-glassed-One declares to RTE One (the most-watched channel in Ireland), “Who was Christ? I don’t think you’re let off easily by saying he was a great thinker or great philosopher. Because, actually, he went around saying he was the Messiah. That’s why he was crucified. He was crucified because he said he was the Son of God. So, he either, in my view, was the Son of God or he was nuts. Forget rock-and-roll messianic complexes. I mean Charlie Manson-type delirium. And I find it hard to accept that all the millions and millions of lives, half the Earth, for 2,000 years have been touched, have felt their lives touched and inspired by some nutter. I don’t believe it.”

At last I’ve found what I’ve been looking for (inside reference): a public figure not afraid to stand up for Jesus. Contrast that to our President who claims to be a Christian and lectures evangelicals on the bad traits of Crusaders, to the delight of radical jihadists. Confessions of faith are rare in entertainment and politics, except when self-serving. The forces of evil can’t be happy with this, such a bold declaration from someone so famous. I pray that Bono, or some such significant public figure, will also embrace deliverance and proclaim freedom for those demonically bound. It could happen, and that will be the day the devil dances to a very different tune.

An encouraging word: DIVINERS LIE

Want to know why our society lies in such moral ruin? Blame the occult for a lot of cultural confusion. The ancient prophet Zechariah declared (10:2),”Diviners see visions that lie, they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep.” Remember that the next time you see psychics extolled or Tarot cards and astrology lauded for supposed insights. Divination is diabolical because it opens an individual’s life to demonic forces. It also leads the seeker of the unknown and forbidden down a trail of emotional and spiritual chaos.

Crash in the Alps!

“For God’s sake, open the door!” Captain Patrick Sodenheimer screamed at the co-pilot Andreas Lubitz. But there was no response. Thirteen minutes later the Germanwings Flight 9525 slammed into the French Alps at 400 mph killing all 150 passengers aboard, including Lubitz. We’ve all witnessed the speculation about Lubitz’s state of mind and the revelation that he was being treated for an unspecified illness. A doctor had apparently declared the co-pilot unfit for work and issued a medical leave notice. Lubitz ignored the instructions and ripped them up. The newspaper Die Welt claims access to information that Lubitz suffered from “severe subjective burnout syndrome.” Like me, you may be wondering, “Did demons do it?’

Would depression or anxiety alone drive Lubitz to do this deed? Not likely. Psychiatrists mostly agree that depression might make Lubitz kill himself, but not necessarily take another 149 innocent lives with him. Psychosis? Again, delusions do drive people to kill but generally not the methodical way this mass murder was planned and calmly executed. DID, Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities)? That’s possible in my opinion. The co-pilot might have suffered from some unknown trauma that induced disconnected states of consciousness, and it was an alter-ego state who flew the plane into the mountains, not the core, sentient mental state of the “real” Lubitz.

Demons? Certainly the deed was demonic. Is there any other way to explain the callous insensitivity to this human tragedy? Demons alone couldn’t have done this. Lubitz must have consented in some way. We’ll never know. “The devil made him do it” isn’t a sufficient explanation. But demons could have influenced an alter-ego to do it, or taken advantage of some de facto consent with evil in the soul of Lubitz. If someone had ministered healing and deliverance to Lubitz this horror could have been averted. As for me, I will continue with all my energy to reach those who, like Lubitz, have believed the lies of Satan and may be on their way to cause great harm of all kinds.

An encouraging word: IT IS GOD

“It is God who arms me with strength,” David said (Psalm 18:32). David goes on in verses 33-36 to explain all that the Lord does on His behalf to provide, protect, and care for him. But it’s the first three words of this expression of confidence that caught my eye: IT IS GOD! I Bookstores are filed with countless volumes of how to look out for #1, to think one’s way to great achievements, or to climb to the top with herculean effort. But the true measure of success is when a Christian can look at all that has been accomplished and say, “It is God.” Of course, we must apply ourselves with diligence, perseverance, and faith, but when the victories have been tallied our final conclusion must be that without the Lord we could do nothing.

That’s not In The Bible!

Christians do it all the time. They say things they think are in the Bible. “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” John Wesley supposedly said it in a 1778 sermon. But it’s not to be found in Scripture, as some suppose. “God helps those who help themselves.” Think that’s somewhere in Holy Writ? Wrong again. It’s probably traceable to ancient Greece and one of Aesop’s Fables. (Benjamin Franklin was also fond of the phrase.) Now try this one on for size: “Light and darkness can’t dwell together.” Many Christians really do believe it’s somewhere in the Bible, even though when pressed they can’t give a chapter and verse. Still, the argument is used to claim that Christians can’t have demons. “The Holy Spirit and an evil spirit can’t dwell together in the same vessel,” they piously insist. Really? Says who?

The nearest you’ll get to this is 2 Corinthians 6:14: What fellowship can light have with darkness? Let’s be real. This verse does not say light and darkness can’t coexist. It posits that they shouldn’t. Paul is telling us the way things should be, not what they can’t be. Be honest, if you think Christians can’t be demonized. You know about plenty of instances when light and darkness operated in the life of the same individual: the fallen pastor who once preached holiness and frequented prostitutes; the newly saved believer who habitually returned to drug abuse and suicidal attempts of self-destruction; the Christian leader who influenced many for the Gospel’s sake but who ended up in jail for fraud and thievery. The examples of light and darkness being present in the same person are legion. It’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

How can light and darkness exist simultaneously? When the spirit of a man is born again, no evil can ever live there, that’s true. But in the mind, thoughts, feelings, and emotions of the soul, it’s possible to entertain ideas and actions that are reprehensible. The solution is sanctification, the discipline of cleansing and purifying the soul by spiritual austerity and the progressive work of the Holy Spirit. But while on that journey to a surrendered life in Christ, there may be tormenting demons left over from an individual’s previous life of sin, remnants of disobedience that still plague the mind. Some of these challenges are the result of old patterns of sinful living. Sometimes, the hindrance comes from demons that were never dealt with at conversion, because it was assumed that salvation settled everything.

More in my next blog on this subject. Stay tuned!

An encouraging word: GOD’S WAYS ARE PERFECT

Admit it. You and I are prone to failures and bad decisions sometimes. If someone were to say they were perfect, we’d roll our eyes or call him a liar. Worse yet, we might lock him up as delusional. But God is perfect. The Bible says so in Psalm 18:30: As for God, His way is perfect. That’s a record that can’t be beaten. Without perfection, God couldn’t be God. And without his perfect ways, we’d all be lost without hope of eternal life. Plus, we’d have no way to find the right path through this life. I know this, when I’ve done things God’s ways, it turned out well. When I didn’t, well, you can imagine. If you are tempted to trust your own ideas as being better than what the Bible says, remember this. You aren’t perfect, and He is.

Media Lies!

She looks sweet and innocent enough. But don’t let her looks fool you. She lies. I’m not saying that all she says is a lie. But in the article in question she certainly distorts the truth. Who is she? Her name is Amanda Marcotte, a prominent liberal writer. She writes for a far-left web site, “Slate,” but Ms. Marcotte also writes for “The Daily Beast,” “Alternet,” and “USA Today.” What riled me was her article entitled, “WHY THE FRINGE FUNDAMENTALIST BELIEF IN DEMONIC POSSESSION HAS REAL-LIFE DANGERS.” Her intent was to attack the idea that “bad or sinful behavior is caused by demons literally possessing or oppressing people and therefore calls for an exorcism.” Imagine that? “Fringe belief?” I guess if you call the Pope and 1.6 billion Catholics “fringe.”

I’ll admit I took it personally when Ms. Marcotte wrote, “The biggest proponent of it [The idea of demonic possession and exorcism.] in evangelical circles is a man named Bob Larson, who can be seen, with his daughter and her “teen exorcist” friends . . . It [exorcism] works because a lot of people really want to believe that destructive behavior is supernatural and can be done away with by praying.” Well fancy that, the very idea that prayer can help to solve the problem of evil. Take that, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Paul, Augustine, and an assortment of saints.

For the record, this reporter never contacted me for a statement. Why call her something as strong as a liar? Because she misrepresents and deliberately distorts 2,000 years of Christian history and the sincere faith of millions of Bible-believing Christians. There are legitimate concerns raised in Marcotte’s article about other issues, including the horrific raping of a six-year-old girl, which may be valid reporting. But dragging me and the issue of demonic possession into this mess is lying to the public as a smear tactic. I invite Ms. Marcotte to sit down with me for a legitimate interview in an appropriate setting. I encourage her to attend one of my seminars and speak with those who have been delivered. On our web site, on our YouTube channel, and in this blog we’ve featured hundreds of real stories of those who’ve been set free from demons. To dismiss that evidence with a keyboard stroke is severe misrepresentation — A LIE!

An encouraging word: GOD ENLIGHTENS DARKNESS

If today is one of those days when darkness, both emotional and spiritual, seem to surround you, take heart from Psalm 18:28: The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. He lightens the darkness to show you the way out of your struggle. He will restore you to where you were before being beset by trials. God does more than point you to the light. He doesn’t just give you a road map leading out of the darkness. The Lord himself becomes your light where there has been obscurity because HE IS THE WAY. HE IS THE LIGHT! And when the Lord does lead you out of your dismal circumstances, you will leave behind your fears and failures, exchanging them for brighter tomorrow.

Demonic Jihad

When a newspaper headline blares The Demonic Wellspring, of course it gets my attention. More so if it’s the Wall Street Journal. The article in reference was about the release of several new secular books on the movement we’ve come to know as ISIS/ISIL/IS (Islamic State), the terrorist Muslim militants declaring an Islamic caliphate in parts of Syria and Iraq. Like some kind of metastasizing spiritual cancer it seems to grow no matter how many air sorties the U.S. and its allies may fly. IS has already conquered an area the size of Britain and is gaining footholds in far-away Libya, Yemen, and Afghanistan. As the WSJ article observed, “ISIS seems to be nourished from a demonic wellspring.” No kidding. Just in January our President called them the “jay-vee.” Well, now they are the “first-string” of our worst nightmares. The appeal of IS to bloodlust, attracting educated and well-off aspirants from western nations, is growing. But here’s what those on the liberal left don’t get: The deeds of IS are consistent with the hadith teachings of their prophet Muhammad. Even if the majority of Muslims don’t see it that way, there are enough Islamic adherents who do. Beheadings, the killing of apostates, slavery and subjection of women does have religious sanction in some corners of Islam. In short, IS may not be Islam, but it is definitely Islamic. In my thinking, it boils down to this. If Christians espoused the same beliefs as IS they would be immediately, severely condemned by their co-religionists, their companions in faith. But faint is the outcry of the Islamic nations who are willing to join the war against this perversion of their own religious consciences. On the contrary, every pornographic, demonic beheading brings more recruits. The persistent savagery of IS is indeed demonic. Its own gore may cause it to collapse in the end, from the sheer disgust of decent humans. But how many more innocents will die before that happens? IS needs to be bombed, but because it is a “demonic wellspring” it also needs to be bound — in the name of Jesus!

An encouraging word: BRINGING DOWN STRONGHOLDS

We are encouraged in 2 Corinthians 10:4 to pull down spiritual “strongholds” that oppose the power of God. I could speak many words about his, but in short a stronghold is the bulwark of the enemy designed to destroy us or at least slow us down. It becomes stronger and stronger until it enslaves us in every way possible, physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. At that point we need a real breakthrough from the Lord to pull it down. If the devil has built such strongholds around your life, nothing short of true deliverance will get you free. Noble intentions and good works aren’t enough. Promises and resolutions will likely fail. It takes intervention from the Lord, and He is ready to do that today.
