Monday of this week, my blog discussed the topic of so-called soul-ties, (To read that blog, CLICK HERE.) This blog further develops that topic. As I discussed in the earlier blog, such bonds may be marital, sexual, fraternal, emotional, spiritual, relational, or any other number of amalgamations that closely knit together two or more individuals in a common purpose. That’s not necessarily bad. If the intent of the co-joining is equally yoked and within proper boundaries, great good can come of it. Deuteronomy 32:30 tells us that if one can chase a thousand, then two can put ten thousand to flight. In other words, a godly soul-tie exponentially increases the value of combined actions. This principle is also true when the action taken by the coupling is ungodly. Demonic bonds of the soul can be spiritually devastating.

Here are some examples:

• A casual sexual encounter with a partner carrying generational curses of witchcraft.
• A businessperson who forms an alliance with an associate having dubious ethics.
• A spouse who remains in an adulterous marriage when all efforts to reform have failed.
• An adult who experienced sexual abuse from an unrepentant parent and who, out of a misguided sense of honor, keeps close contact with that parent.
• A parishioner who remains under the teaching and authority of a pastor who has morally lapsed and has sought no accountable restoration.
• A member of an organization such as Freemasons who is bound by soul-tie, demonic oaths

This list could be much more exhaustive, but the dangers of not severing a satanic soul-tie are almost innumerable. If you find yourself in such bondage, take these steps. First, extricate yourself immediately from the soul-bonded relationship. Second, second seek godly counsel and deliverance. An encouraging word:  NO OTHER GOD.

Ours is an age of syncretism and compromise. A time of live and let live, especially in the religious area. You’ve heard it stated many ways, such as, “There is one god and many roads to him.” But Deuteronomy 32: 39 is emphatic: “There is no God besides me.” The revealed deity of Scripture, Jehovah, has no competitors, no pretenders to His throne. To the inclusive religionist who wants to reduce all gods to irrelevant sameness, this scripture is a major hurdle. It leaves no room for accommodation. All other so-called gods are false. They are deceivers, unworthy of worship. Don’t be taken in by those CO-EXIST bumper stickers. There is only one God and his ultimate expression is in Jesus, the Christ.

I didn’t originate the term “soul-tie.” I personally prefer “soul-bond” as being more descriptive. But for our purposes, we’ll go with soul-tie here. To those not familiar with the term, it describes a powerful connection between two individuals that goes beyond normal human interaction. It’s not a biblical designation, but the general idea is there. Take for example David and King Saul’s son Jonathan. (“He [Jonathan] loved him [David] as he loved his own soul.” – 1 Samuel 20:17) Soul-ties can exist between spouses, lovers, friends, business associates, cult members, organizational adherents, or most any pairing of two or more people with a significant common interest. Such bonds aren’t necessarily evil, but the nature of a soul-tie is that whatever traits/likes/dislikes/preferences/desires etc. one has becomes a soul-part of the other. It’s from this that I’ve coined the phrase STD – “spiritually/soul-transmitted-demons.”

In a recent blog, I revealed how sexual unions may pass on the actual genetics of a long-disengaged partner (“Generational Curses Through Sex”, July 20, 2015. TO READ, CLICK HERE.) Unfortunately, the effects of a soul-tie can be felt long after a relationship has ended, even generations after. Soul-ties are particularly pernicious when the bond is sexual. Those who have had numerous sexual partners are at risk for all the curses and demons of every person with whom they’ve had intercourse, and all the sexual partners of each their sexual partners, and so on and so on ad infinitum. That’s a lots of spiritual baggage in the name of love, or whatever. Have sex with a prostitute and you run the risk of getting every demon of every individual he/she has consorted with. I witness this in ministry constantly. Almost every day I pray with someone who has demons they got from some kind of soul-tie.

If I’ve described you, don’t despair. Soul-ties can be easily broken, even trans-generational ones, by prayers of renunciation.  An encouraging word: WHERE IS GOD?

Jesus said, “Where I am, you may also be there” (John 14:3). What a great promise. Christ was speaking of His ascent to the Father. In the verse before he speaks of the “many mansions” in heaven which are prepared for the inhabitation of all those who have trusted in Him. I’ve heard people derisively declare, “Where’s God?” They are usually upset that the Lord didn’t seem to be present at a particular time in their lives. What’s the answer to that question? God is in heaven, and if you also want to go there, I have a warning. You may not make it by challenging His patience and love by angry accusations.

They were states apart with decades of difference. Last week, Bever, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, stabbed to death five family members, his parents and siblings ages 12, 7, and 5. Houser opened fire in a Lafayette, Louisiana movie house and killed two, injuring nine. Houser was 59, Bever 18. There were some similarities. According to reports, both were church-goers. (Bever was home-schooled.) Both were from conservative southern states. Both perpetrated white-on-white crime. This wasn’t drug-fueled, urban city violence or the work of satanic cults. These were essentially lone killers, though Bever may have had help from a brother. Similarities end there. Houser had a history of mental illness and irrational outbursts of anger. Houser shot himself. Bever proudly confessed and said that he planned more killings if not caught.

To say that murder demons were afoot in these tragedies is an understatement. These were not crimes of revenge for injustices of grievous magnitude. These were not retaliations for direct personal threats, acts of revenge for the torment of another. Lives were not taken for financial gain or the result of terrorist indoctrination. These crimes were truly senseless with unimaginable motives. They were clearly demonic, out and out evil for the sake of evil.

Why? Though the facts may differ, one has to wonder if the moral restraints of our culture have become so weakened that evil spirits of many stripes are taking advantage of these growing absences of common decency. Yes, ISIS is an international threat, and saber-rattling in Eastern Europe is cause for concern. But our own backyard is apparently just as dangerous.  And it will be until Christians rise up and declare war on the devil. An encouraging word: TRUST AND BE DELIVERED

Have you failed God and wondered if He would take you back? Have you fallen short so many times you’re ready to give up? Israel did the same thing, over and over again. But the Psalmist declared of the Jews, “They cried to you, and were delivered. They trusted in you and were not ashamed” (Psalm 22:5). If the constantly failing Children of Israel could do this, so can you. Don’t believe the lies of Satan that God has forsaken you. He is ready to help you out of your troubles. Trust in him, put away your shame, and He will deliver YOU.

I don’t watch TV much. Just cable news. Definitely not extreme leftist MSNBC. But while in Canada last week, I kept the TV on in the background (when I wasn’t doing Personal Spiritual Encounter sessions) to get the latest word on the Chattanooga, Tennessee shootings. On came an ad for an outfit called Cougar Life. A buxom blonde, barely clothed, strutted down the street followed by lustful young men half her age. You get the idea.

Then I get back to America this week and find that Cougar Life is part of a stable of dot-com sexual hook up sites, including Ashley Madison and Established Men. The parent company, Avid Life Media/ALM (a Toronto company-no wonder I was bombarded with these ads in Canada) had their data base hacked. Thirty-seven million users of the sexual hook-up service had lots of personal stuff stolen, including financial records. The company’s slogan, “Life is short. Have an affair,” could leave a lot of people with a whole lot of explaining to do if the hackers make the stolen data public.

Do any of you feel sorry for ALM or its customers? Not me. They aren’t victims. Their spouses are. ALM’s Chief Executive Noel Biderman lamented, “This is a criminal act.” Spare me. Biderman has been victimizing innocent wives, husbands, and children, to make his millions. The hackers threaten to release all ALM’s customer’s sexual fantasies and names and addresses. This sexual trafficking site, which is essentially a prostitution ring for married partners, could have seen this coming a long time ago if they had read Numbers 32:23, which says, “Be sure that your sin will find you out.”

 An encouraging word:  HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” So says the apostle Paul in Philippians 2:5. Now, that’s a tall order. As Christian we have the Spirit of Jesus, by and through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit when we are saved. We have the resurrection life in Christ to spend eternity in heaven. But that is what Jesus does for us. What we have to do for ourselves, no small feat, is to strive to have His thoughts and feelings, the “mind” of Christ. It’s not something to be achieved all at once. But today, may I suggest you read again the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter five and start with the “blessed.” Do your best to adopt at least one a week, and in no time you’ll be a lot nearer than you are now to the mind and thinking which was in Christ Jesus.

A one-night-stand and it’s over. A hook-up at a party and you move on. Right? Not so fast. What you may not realize is that the person you had sex with could stay with you for a very long time. And whatever curses that person has embedded in their DNA could become your permanent spiritual companions. Sound far-fetched? Don’t take my word for it. Medical researchers have discovered an interesting genetic quirk. A significant amount of women today have a Y chromosome in their blood, the chromosome belonging to men. This condition has a name, microchimerism. How did it happen? There are several possible sources, such as a past pregnancy of a male child, whether the child was aborted, miscarried, or carried to full term. There is also the possibility of a vanished male twin pregnancy. But the most interesting source of the Y chromosome, according to researchers at the Fred Hutchison Cancer Center, is sexual intercourse. That’s right, ladies, the genes of that lover under the cover may stay in your organs and blood stream the rest of your life!

From a standpoint of spiritual warfare, the findings of this research back up what those of us in deliverance ministry have long known, the power of soul-ties, especially sexual ones. It’s important that the effect of all past allegiances of this nature, especially past sexual dalliances, be terminated. CURSE BREAKING has special prayers that help the reader to break off these bondages from the past. The bad news is that your past indiscretions can come back to haunt you and future generations. For example, what if that past partner was involved in witchcraft or had an ancestor who dabbled in the occult? You can get the kick-back without even knowing what is happening. The good news is that you can break every curse of your past by faith in the power of Christ and confessing the curse to be null and void. You can’t change the past, but you can change how the past affects who you are today. Break those soul-tie curses now!

 An encouraging word:GOD BROUGHT YOU FORTH

Life has become cheapened today. From termination by abortion to the callousness of surrogacy and genetic selection via sperm banks. But the Bible teaches that every life is precious, and that God is the author of that life. “You brought me out of the womb, you made me trust in you,” King David said (Psalm 22:9). Though some see this as a messianic psalm, it has larger implications for every newborn child. Any parent, such as me, who has been present at the birth of a child (I have three daughters.) understands the mystery and awe of birth. No matter what the intentions of your parents, planned pregnancy or casual sex, you are wanted and loved by the Lord. It is He who brought you forth unto life.

One thing you have to say for Satanists, they don’t give up easily. Worshippers of Lucifer want to erect in Detroit, Michigan a nine-foot, one-ton bronze statue of the devil in Baphomet form. This half-human, half-goat symbol of Satan, complete with wings, cloven-hooves, and horns, is an ancient depiction of the devil. A group called the Satanic Temple wants to display this hideous representation. The statue is backed by an inverted pentagram and flanked by two young children gazing awe-like into Satan’s face.

The choice of the Motor City comes after Temple followers weren’t successful in getting this Satan symbol situated next to a statue of the Ten Commandments on Oklahoma State Capitol grounds. To make matters more bizarre, the Temple doesn’t want the Baphomet to stand there alone. They specifically want it next to the Commandments, in their words to send a message of the “reconciliation of opposites” and a “call-to-arms” against “self-serving theocrats.” Some church leaders in Detroit are understandably upset. In a city beset with bankruptcy and violence this certainly isn’t a step in the right direction.

How much should Christians be concerned about such things? Bishop Charles Ellis III, pastor of the 6,000 member Greater Grace Temple, says he’s not worried since America was “built on freedom of religion.” But wait a moment. Is the Bishop saying that symbols mean nothing? I suspect this same pastor was in favor of the confederate flag coming down from the South Carolina Statehouse. The flag, the cross, the Ten Commandments, Lady Justice gracing the Supreme Court – these are all powerful images that in a glance convey values embodied in their presence. Putting the devil in Detroit, if not vigorously opposed, is giving demons permission to further disgrace this great city.

An encouraging word: HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT

 No matter what you may be facing today, as with the apostle Paul, the Lord’s “grace is sufficient” (1 Corinthians 12:9). But it’s the second part of that verse which really drives home this truth. Paul writes that the strength of Christ is perfected in our “weakness.” What a seeming contradiction. But the biblical teaching is that when we are weak in ourselves, we are strong in Jesus. Think of your own life. When things were going good, you may not have been so conscious of needing the Lord’s guidance. But in times of trials, you were likely more aware of your dependence on Him. The key to success in Christian living is to realize we need to be weak in ourselves and strong in the Lord no matter what our circumstances.

This past July 4, President Obama delivered his message to America. Several conservative commentators noted that he failed to give the usual Presidential sign-off to such speeches, a hearty “God bless America.” All he mustered was, “From my family to yours, have a safe and happy Fourth of July.” Whether the omission was deliberate or not, it certainly reflected the godless tenor of his tenure. But that apparently doesn’t bother most Americans. A Gallup poll released the week before the Fourth revealed that an astonishing 58%, well over half, of Americans would be willing to vote for an atheist candidate. That is a 40% difference from when the question was first asked in 1958, just 18% back then. According to the Pew Research Center, 23% of Americans believe in nothing, a group larger than Roman Catholics.

We truly live in a post-Christian world in the home of the free. And what does that mean for those of us who believe in spiritual warfare? Our work just got a lot more challenging, but with a lot more opportunities to demonstrate the reality of Christ’s power. In these last days, we’re seeing a return to the tenor and times of the early church, faced with a majority pagan, hostile culture. Lost is a societal consensus about morality or a transcendent deity who speaks to man with moral authority. It’s every Bruce Jenner for himself, each one free to define his own belief, gender, even ethnicity. In fact there is a certain edginess in claiming to be an atheist, as if it were some cool calling card. Without a spiritual awakening of some kind in our land, we’ll likely soon see a man or woman in the White House who ignores all deference to deity. But though God may be expunged from public conversation, demons are not going away. Their victims will be more tormented than ever. And these tortured individuals will look for relief and turn to those of us who are unashamed to say both “God bless America” and “Out in the name of Jesus!”

 An encouraging word: DO WHAT IS RIGHT IN GOD’S EYES

 In our world of moral shifting sand, we are once again becoming like those in the time of Israel before the kings, when it was said that, “Every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6). In other words, every man was a law unto himself with no externalized, objective criteria to evaluate behavior. That led to disaster in Israel, and will lead to abject moral failure in any individual’s life today. How do you decide to live? In what are your values rooted? Without God and His Word as a guide, it is every man for himself. Don’t let the shifting sands of personal entitlement decide your ethical decisions. Determine to reflect the righteousness of God in your own life. Do what’s right in God’s eyes.

Coming soon to a theater near you (This fall, actually.) a cartoonish glorification of Hindu gods (read that “demons”) just for kids. Director Sanjay Patel has reached back to his childhood in India to form a team of superheroes based on three Hindu gods, Durga, Vishnu, and Hanuman. The Hindu deities help an alter-ego child, also known as Sanjay, to defeat a scary monster. It’s not enough that so-called Holy Yoga and Yoga for the Soul have invaded evangelical church, but now our children will get a Pixar-inspired version of eastern occultism packaged in the motif of The Avengers.

For those unfamiliar with Hindu gods, a primer. Durga is a goddess also known as Shakti, a sexual spirit/demon awakened in kundalini yoga. Durga is the sexual consort of the Hindu destroyer-god Shiva, one of the Hindu trinity of major deities. Durga also manifests as Kali, a.k.a. Jezebel. (My latest book JEZEBEL: Your #1 Spiritual Enemy has a more detailed explanation. To order CLICK HERE.) Durga also goes by the names Saraswati and Lakshmi. Vishnu is the so-called “Preserver” god in Hinduism. He’s blue with four arms. Then there is Hanuman, the half-human monkey god. He is an incarnation of the more violent and hideous Hindu deity, Shiva.

During exorcisms I’ve faced all of these demon deities, Durga, Vishnu, Hanuman, Shakti, Lakshmi, Shiva, and many more of their ilk. In simple terms, these Hindu gods are archetypes of demons, and those who worship them may become possessed by them. Without realizing it, this is what Hollywood will be doing to our children, creating vulnerabilities to demonic possession via a short subject to preview in front of the likely hit film, “The Good Dinosaur” (Disney). Imagine a Hollywood film about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not likely to happen. But Durga, Vishnu, and Hanuman will have their day. It’s just one more sign of Satan’s corruption of our culture and the anemic spiritual inclusiveness that is so P.C. today. Either fight it or get one of those COEXIST bumper sticks and join the march to Armageddon.

An encouraging word: EXPOSE EVIL

“Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them,” wrote Paul in Ephesians 5:11. That can be difficult. How can one expose (“reprove” KJV) without being judgmental? How does one condemn the sin and not the sinner? It’s not easy, but that doesn’t mean it should be avoided. How can this be handled graciously? First, “have no fellowship.” Reproof begins with non-association. Don’t consort with sinners and then expect to condemn their evil. Second, don’t be afraid of calling darkness what it is: “darkness,” evil, detestable, and damning. Exposing Satan’s work will take wisdom and balance, but don’t avoid it all together.

First Peter 5:8 warns, “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him . . .” Tell that to the guy above on the left, and the guy on the right. Left, a man on a British safari in South Africa (just days ago) being attacked by a leopard that grabbed his arm while in a safari vehicle. He sustained serious injury and had to be hospitalized.

Now, an explanation about the guy on the right. After an exhausting series of recent meetings in South Africa, I relaxed for a couple of days on a safari, the same kind of activity of the man attacked by the leopard. Same kind of vehicle, similar game park, not far away from the leopard incident. Moments after I shot this selfie, the elephant over my left shoulder, with his back to me, suddenly turned and came on a full charge toward our vehicle, trumpeting loudly. Quick thinking and a fast retreat by our driver avoided a violent crash with this huge pachyderm. Lesson to learn? When on safari beware. A wild animal can become a life-threatening danger at any moment.

Leopards. Elephants. Lions. Whatever the beast, in the jungle beware. Python. Leviathan. Jezebel (That’s one really wild beast!). Whatever demonic form the devil is using to stalk your life, be aware that he can turn on you in a moment. Our guide and ranger had no idea what made that elephant suddenly decide charge us. It doesn’t matter. Like animals in the wild, you can’t predict the devil’s behavior. The only protection is to do what Peter said, “Be sober, be vigilant” (“self-controlled and alert” NIV).

 An encouraging word: RESIST BY FAITH

In 1 Peter 5:9 and in James 4:7 we are told to “resist” the devil. How is that done? Peter explains in verse 9: “Standing firm in the faith.” Resisting Satan isn’t about shouting at him or wishing him away. You can’t make the devil leave by prayer and fasting alone, even church attendance and tithing. These things are all good, and necessary for a victorious Christian life. But nothing takes the place of faith. Hebrews 11:32 reminds us that the spiritual heroes of old actually closed the mouths of lions by faith and “through faith subdued kingdoms.” If you want to put the devil and his kingdom on the run, then resist by the gift of faith which God has given you.

Is it possible to cast out the demons from an entire country? You’ve got to give Mexican Catholics credit for trying. At the cathedral of San Luis Potosi, Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez, the archbishop emeritus of Guadalajara, performed an “Exorcismo Magno,” a huge exorcism on the whole country of Mexico. The Cardinal, and his associates, concluded that the devil had such a grip on Mexico, with rising interest in witchcraft and the violence of drug cartels, only a really big exorcism affecting all of Mexico would work. To avoid a media frenzy, the exorcism was done in private last May 20. Fr. Iniguez was joined by demonologist and exorcist Fr. Jose Anontio Fortea. Said Fortea, “To the extent there is more witchcraft and Satanism going on in a country, to that extent there will be more extraordinary manifestations of those powers of darkness.”

This effort to get the devil out of a nation, as opposed to casting out demons from a person, is worth considering. Fr. Fortea points out that he doesn’t expect immediate, dramatic results, but does anticipate “positive repercussions” to at least make “a great number of the tempters [of Satan] flee.” Fortea concludes, “In any case, if this ritual were to be carried out in more countries once year, this would put an end to any extraordinary manifestations which would show us the rage of the devil. Because, without a doubt, the demons hate to be driven out of a place or to be bound with the power of Christ.”

Good for him. His heart is in the right place. Who among the Protestant or Catholic leaders of America has had the guts to suggest anything like this? The Assemblies of God? The Southern Baptists? Methodists? Presbyterians? ANYONE? To my Protestant compatriots I ask this question. If you don’t like the way the Catholics do exorcism, what are you doing? Who wants to join me in an exorcism of America? God knows we need it!

 An encouraging word: WAR IN HEAVEN

“And there was war in heaven.” That passage from Revelation 12:7 seems a bit unusual. Most picture heaven as a place of pure bliss, all pastoral with never-ending blue skies and serenity as far as the eye can see. But the Bible says that once there was war, when Lucifer rebelled against God and His holy angels. That war still rages, not in heaven, but here on earth. The battle is for souls, and the devil and his demons haven’t given up yet. Are you aware of this war in your own life? Do you realize that Satan is seeking to tempt you each day, and that only the power of Christ will allow you to endure? The devil will flee in the name of Jesus, but only if you take action to battle in His name!
