The Pope is Wrong!

Gone are the good ole days when a Pope would pontificate on things such as heresy and infallibility. The current Pope, Francis, recently weighed in on the topic of tattoos and declared, “Don’t be afraid of tattoos. The problem is the exaggeration, not the tattoos.” As readers of this blog know, I’ve tackled this topic several times before (“Are Tattoos Christian” 12/11/17, “Demonic Tattoos” 12/14/15, “Tattoo You” 02/10/14, “Cremation Tattoos 11/11/13, “Tattoo Removal” 09/21/12 – to read click here.) My book “Curse Breaking” has an entire section on Tattoos, concluding, “The simple injection of ink under the skin has no spiritual power within itself. It is the particular subject, theme, art, or representation that cause the damage. Symbols have the power to bridge the gap between the physical and the metaphysical.” Which is the say that, while I get what the Pope is saying, I disagree with the measure of his endorsement. Leviticus 19:28 is difficult to get around: “You shall not tattoo any marks on you.” Sorry, Pope Francis, that’s a prohibition, not a variable.

In the same speech, the Pope had some excellent observations about the dangers of social media: “In the social media, we see faces of young people appearing in any number of pictures recounting more or less real events, but we don’t know how much of all this is really ‘history,’ an experience that can be communicated and endowed with purpose and meaning.” I couldn’t agree more, but back to the tattoo topic. Exaggeration is an issue. You’ve surely seen examples of people tattooed quite literally head to foot, and even face. The Pope called this a “sense of belonging.” But belonging to what? A transient fad that will someday bar the bearer from a more desirable social group, because “they” don’t want to be around someone with hideous early 21st century “tribal” markings?

Medical tattoos are one thing, recreational markings another. Surely, we Christians could agree that dragons, Om symbols, Buddhist mandalas, voluptuous figures, obscene gestures, profane words, astrology signs, death skulls, pagan gods, Celtic geometrics, yin-yang symbols, mythical creatures, chakra locations, etc. are off limits. But where is the line to be drawn from there? You may have a dumb tattoo from the time you were drunk or high on weed, but what you inked in your right mind has more spiritual consequences than you realize.

A couple of month I spotted a young woman in a seminar who was spiritually agitated. When I singled her out and had her stand, I noticed a tattooed hexagram on her leg. (She was wearing shorts.) All I had to do was strike her leg with my Bible and demons instantly manifested. An extreme example? Perhaps, but who wants to take the risk that any tattoo of any kind could be a portal for evil spirits. Not me! You?

An encouraging word: YOU’RE SURROUNDED BY ANGELS

“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear him,” says Psalm 34:7. When you feel alone; when you have a sense of being beleaguered; when it appears as if your enemies encompass you. That’s when you need to know that angels are all around. You may feel surrounded by evil, but God is also there. You just need to be aware of His presence, by faith. As with Elisha, you need your eyes opened to know there those who are for you are more than those against you.

King David’s Demons Part 2

Last week I raised the controversial question, “Did King David have demons?” Without making definitive claims, I suggested the possibility that the unlikely affair of David and Bathsheba belies an explanation beyond lust and David’s kingly prerogatives. I also pointed out that David’s soul-connection to King Saul, whom we know had demons, might have transferred spiritual oppression to David. Please read part #1 of this series in its entirety to get the full context of what I’ve already postulated; to do so, click here.

Let’s also consider the strong soul-tie that David had with Jonathan, Saul’s son. First Samuel 18:1 declares that “the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” Two verses later we read in First Samuel 18:3, “Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.” Jonathan even gave his royal robe to David, along with his sword and other articles of clothing. How much more powerful could a soul-bond be? As the son of Saul, Jonathan was afflicted by the same curses that came upon his father. The proof of this is his death in battle, citied in First Chronicles 10:2. And if Jonathan had his father’s curses, why wouldn’t he also have had his father’s demons? And through the soul-connection between Jonathan and David, why wouldn’t those demons have, to some extent, passed on to David?

As I stated in part 1 of this series, the breaking of curses, along with exorcism and deliverance, were unknown at the time of King David. Plus, the fullness of authority over curses and demons had not yet been given through Christ. Saul’s demons most certainly passed to his sons, Jonathan being one of them; and by the soul-covenant between Jonathan and David these same demons could have passed from Jonathan to David. This helps us to better understand how such a godly man as David could committed adultery and then murder to cover up his evil.

None of this excuses David’s failure of personal moral discipline and his willful scheming to kill Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah the Hittite. As I’ve stated many times, demons can’t make us do anything. They can lure and tempt, but no human responds robotically to demonic commands. But demons can orchestrate situations that make it difficult to remain true to the Lord. Why was David up at night walking around on the palace roof (2 Samuel 11:2)? Had evil spirits disturbed his sleep at the exact moment Bathsheba was bathing? Was the timing less coincidental and more of an intricately crafted plan of Satan to destroy the Seed which could eventually crush the serpent’s head?

The lessons here are many. First, we must guard our hearts “with all diligence” (Proverbs 4:23). Second, we must be wary of soul-bonds with those whose alignment with evil can rub off on us. “Evil company corrupts good habits” (1 Corinthians 15:33), and melding our souls with those whose curses haven’t been broken may mean spiritual disaster for them and us.

An encouraging word: BE CONSISTENT

The past few weeks millions of Americans in the Northeast have suffered through horrendous storms of snow and ice. Though spring is almost up on us, it has been anything but spring-like. Such extremes of climate conditions are to be expected now and then. Not so the extremes of behavior among Christians who believe the Bible. The Living Bible says this in 2 Timothy 4:2 – Preach the Word of God urgently at all times, whenever you get the chance, in season and out, when it is convenient and when it is not. Our declaration of God’s truths can’t be like the weather, hot one day and cold the next. We must be consistent with proclaiming God’s Word. We must also be consistent with living the Word and make certain we are always in the season of godliness.

King David’s Demons

What I’m about to say has so much potential for controversy that I offer an advance disclaimer. I’m not issuing Holy Writ. I’m not advocating a new doctrine. I’m not even saying that what I explore below is 100% true. I am suggesting a possible answer to a centuries-old theological conundrum: How could King David, a man of immense power and wealth with eight wives and 10 concubines (all the sex he could ever want, 2 Sam 3:2-5), risk his kingdom for one woman, Bathsheba, no matter how attractive she was? And how could he commit murder (the killing of Bathsheba’s husband, 2 Sam 12:9) to cover up the crime? It’s too easy to say that absolute power absolutely corrupts. This was, after all, a man “after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22).

Did David have demons? If so, it explains a lot. As an exorcist with experience spanning 40 years and 40,000 documented cases of possession, I feel qualified to offer an answer. Perhaps more than anyone alive, I’ve seen how demons operate at the subtlest levels. I’ve ministered exorcism and deliverance to hundreds of Christian leaders, pastors, priests, nuns, deacons, worship leaders, some of them household names. They all had demons that manifested verbally, some violently. There could be no mistaking that they were saved and possessed of demons. Yet they carried on their ministries while hiding dark secrets that tormented them incessantly.

How could such demons hide? I’ll leave it to our online International School of Exorcism and our Advanced Academy of Deliverance to provide the theological details of how this happens. More to the point, consider David. First, if he had demons, there was no easy way out of his spiritual quandary. Before Jesus came, it is scripturally clear that possession and some form of exorcism existed. How else could the seven sons of Sceva (Acts 19:14) have found a place for their exorcist skills? But until Christ offered his disciples, and us, a clear commission of spiritual authority over demons in His name, exorcism was ritualistic, formulaic, and mostly unsuccessful. So, there was no way for David to be delivered. No effective procedure existed, and there’s no biblical evidence he sought such a solution.

Second, we know that King Saul had demons (1 Sam. 16:14), and David was present when these demons manifested (1 Sam. 16:23). King Saul tried to kill David (1 Sam. 18:10-11). Unquestionably, Saul and David were in a soul-connected relationship at that point, Saul as king in authority over David, and David as servant bonded to Saul on a soul-level through music. Plus, a spirit of Death and Murder was upon Saul and, through this soul-connection, the demons might have attached in some way to David. I have encountered many instances in which murder was attempted on an individual and the spirit of Murder consequently adhered to that potential victim. Like many great Christian leaders I’ve ministered to, David’s demons could have hidden, awaiting a chance to push their host over the edge. Was Bathsheba an indication of this?

Dream Catcher Demons

While politicians debate whether guns belong in the hands of teachers, a medicine woman, aka witchdoctor, has handed the Parkland, Florida school shooting survivors a talisman, a dream catcher, to welcome demons to their school. An article in “The Wall Street Journal” about this inane action was entitled, “A Talisman of Solidarity Given to Attack Survivors.” (I’ll save you the time to look up the word talisman: “an object supposed to possess occult powers and worn as an amulet or charm.”) A dream catcher is a Native-American hoop, usually made of willow (this one is), fashioned with spiritually sacred items such as feathers and beads. Its purpose is to ward off evil spirits and welcome good ones. It’s seen as a web to catch snakes and was often hung over the cradle of an infant.

This one, fashioned by female witchdoctor (known as a medicine woman) Debra Gutowski, has made the rounds of schools which have had shootings since it was first fashioned nearly 20 years ago to supposedly heal the wounds of Colorado’s Columbine High School massacre. In this case the catcher is a poster, which is easier to transport. Gutowski said she made it because of its “healing” properties and “protective powers.” This obviously occult emblem has been welcomed wherever it has been sent and will likely be embraced by the students and faculty of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. But imagine the outcry from liberals and atheists if an enshrined Bible, or plaque with a scripture, were being toted around from school to school in the aftermath of a shooting?

A dream catcher can’t catch bad dreams or evil spirits. In fact, as an amulet of witchcraft, it attracts them. I’m sure that Gutowski means well, and so do those who cart around this object of evil. They have no understanding of spiritual warfare and certainly no comprehension regarding the supernatural world of demons. But there must be a Christian somewhere who will stand up and declare that we need the Bible, prayer, and the Ten Commandments back in school to stop the killing, not a hoop of superstition and demonism.

An encouraging word: GOD HASN’T FORGOTTEN

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? David’s lament of Psalm 13:1 goes on in verse two: How long will my enemy triumph over me? How human. How much like you and me. We’ve all had times we felt abandoned by God and wondered why our adversaries were allowed to step up their attacks on us. To each who has felt abandoned or forsaken, welcome to the human family. It’s part of living and growing in life. It’s as old as King David. And the answer to this painful query is still the same: I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

White House Exorcism

The story has circulated since President Trump’s Inauguration, January 21, last year. Now the account is gaining steam with at least one pastor claiming inside information that First Lady Melania Trump demanded an exorcism of the White House before she’d move in. According to the uncorroborated account, she had priests and pastors anoint the place with oil. The problem, according to this story, was images of gods and idols from the Obama days and Haitian witchcraft influences from the Clinton era. (The Clintons spent their honeymoon in Haiti and visited a Voodoo ceremony, an event Bill Clinton admitted to in his book “My Life.”) Melania, a devout Catholic, wanted the demonic stuff out and her new home cleansed. Since all these claims are off-the-record, it’s hard to know what’s true. If accurate, good for her, and good for American.

Tales of White House demons isn’t new. Some paranormal buffs believe it’s the most haunted building in America. Legends abound, such as the ghost of William Henry Harrison who died a month after his inauguration. Eleanor Roosevelt once claimed to have heard President Lincoln’s ghost pacing the hallways. As the tale goes, Winston Churchill refused to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom after seeing a ghost beside the fireplace. History does attest that Jane Pierce, the wife of President Franklin Pierce, invited spiritualists to the White House to hold seances so she could talk to her dead son. After the death of her 11-year-old child Willie, Mary Lincoln, enamored with spiritualism, also held seances to communicate with her departed child. Abraham Lincoln himself attend one such séance.

I don’t doubt that the White House has had demons in it, claiming territorial rights, based on the evidence above. In addition, Bill Clinton invited demons of lust into the Oval Office, during his trysts with Monica Lewinsky. Nancy Reagan’s embrace of astrology, especially her relationship with psychic Joan Quigley, brought in more evil spirits. But before we point fingers at Presidents and occult presidential shenanigans, we all need to get the demons out of our where we live and how we live. An encouraging word: WICKEDNESS IN SOCIETY

I read many Bible versions, but there are times when the old King James Version says it best, like in Psalm 12:8: “The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.” In short, wickedness easily prevails when evil men are held up as icons. What a picture of the times we live in. Our entertainment heroes treat women as sex objects. Our politicians lie and use spin-speak to cover up their deception. Even preachers hide their hypocrisy until caught. In contrast, Proverbs 4:18 declares, The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

Another School Massacre

It happened again, in Parkland, just a 30-minute drive from my seminar, March 2, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. By the time you read this, the death toll, initially set at 17, will likely be higher. This tragedy has been called “catastrophic” by USA TODAY and “pure evil” by Florida’s governor. Journalists, political pundits, and talk show hosts have been positing theories as to why it happened and solutions to prevent it from happening again. But most have missed the point. More guards at schools and better detection of mental illness may mitigate such carnage; however, the problem we face is not one of identifying madmen or restricting their ability to commit mass murder. We must look deeper at the moral conditions than spawn such killers.

Since 20 first graders and six adults where shot in Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 there have been 239 more school shootings, with 438 being shot and 138 killed! There have been three mass shootings in the last four months. Those my age, and even those several decades younger, find such outbreaks of violence unimaginable. When I attended high school, we had no metal detectors at our school entrances. There were no armed security guards or police on duty at the schoolhouse steps. What’s changed isn’t the impulse of evil in the hearts of potential criminals. What’s different is the generational change in moral behavior.

Until recent decades, there were no wardrobe malfunctions at football games. No abortion on demand. No identity politics polarizing the left and right. No rap “singers” advocating the killing of cops. No basketball stars like Lebron James, who didn’t even finish high school and can’t speak a grammatically consistent sentence, cursing the President. No movies like “Pulp Fiction,” “Fast and Furious,” and “Kill Bill,” and no violent video games such as “Mortal Kombat,” “Thrill Kill,” and “Grand Theft Auto.” No legal, recreational drugs like weed.

Here’s what we did have: Everyone recited the pledge of allegiance every day; everyone stood for the National Anthem; prayer in schools; graduation with a baccalaureate service and a pastoral sermon. Our butts got paddled if we broke school discipline. (Yes, it happened to even me.)

What we face is a spiritual problem of moral rebellion, disrespect for authority, lust and greed at every level of society, and smooth talking mega-pastors who wouldn’t know a demon if it spit in their face. Consequently, demons run rampant with little restraint upon their evil. Here’s what will stop the killing: tougher drugs laws, faster sentencing of criminals, stricter behavior codes in schools, no-nonsense teachers, and more hellfire preachers. And a lot more exorcists.

An encouraging word: COMPARISONS

We are all prone to compare ourselves to others. The car they drive, the house they live in, what they look like are all factors we may consider when making comparisons. First Samuel 16:7 says, “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Remember that the next time you compare yourself to another person. As someone who counsels those with deep, dark secrets I can assure you that things are not always what they appear on the outside.

Voodoo Deliverance

A recent news report was about as bizarre as it gets. A five-year-old child faces a lifetime of permanent disfigurement from burns, cuts, beatings and unspeakable torture because of a Voodoo deliverance. The Haitian mother of the youngster claimed that her child was behaving badly due to evil spirits. So, she took the little girl to a voodoo priest. The officiant blew fire on the child and lacerated her with a sharp object. All the while, the girl’s hands and feet were tied, rendering her helpless. Now, the mother and the witchcraft priestess are in jail charged with indecent assault and battery on a child. Ironically, whether the child had demons, she most certainly does now after being subjected to this satanic trauma.

Of course, the mother and priestess are to be blamed for this despicable tragedy. But should part of the blame be shared by American evangelical Christians, those who are supposed to believe the Bible, word for word? As pointed out in our International School of Exorcism, Level 1, Course 3, in the gospel of Matthew 7 of 28 chapters refer to demonic activity; in Mark’s gospel 15 chapters deal with the demonic, and in Luke’s gospel 8 of 24 chapters contain accounts of demonic encounters. That’s roughly a third of the chapters in the synoptic gospels.

There is no excuse when Christian leaders avoid the mention of exorcism’s importance in the ministry of Christ. Fewer searching people would be going to psychics, energy healers, and even Voodoo witchdoctors if they knew they could find help in churches. Whether or not such seekers of exorcism really do have demons isn’t the issue. The tragedy is that they can’t find legitimate answers in most of the evangelical community. In fact, anyone who approaches a Christian pastor saying they have demons will likely be treated as a nut-job or handed over to a psychiatrist without the slightest benefit of deliverance prayer.

I’m angry at the injustice of that little girl being tortured in the name of exorcism, but I’m even more upset at the neglect of this much-needed ministry among followers of Christ. You may think that God will severely judge that mother and Voodoo witchdoctor, but what does the Lord think of those in Christian ministry who fail to offer answers for the satanically afflicted, especially Christians who think they may have demons?

An encouraging word: Don’t Envy Evil

Psalm 37:1 offers advice we need to be reminded of over and over: “Do not fret because of evil man or be envious of those who do wrong.” Our celebrity-obsessed culture does the opposite. Take a glance at the Grammy’s or the Academy Awards and you’ll see the opposite of what God advises. In such showplaces, it seems as if the most outlandish and morally egregious behavior is honored. As Christians, we’re not to admire or envy such people, who often lead evil lives. Set your sights on godly examples and those who live scriptural lives instead of envying those whose fame is fleeting.

Demons According to Mark

I’ve been reading again the gospels, for my own edification. Over a lifetime, I’ve read them many times, but this go-around is to see what fresh truths I can find. As I began Mark’s gospel, I was struck immediately that this account of Christ’s life is unashamedly a document about demons. Consider the evidence:

  • Mark’s first reference to ministry by Jesus is an exorcism, the casting out of demons from a worshiping, godly Jew in the synagogue. (Our International School of Exorcism analyzes this exorcism in detail, especially pointing out that this man was obviously known as a devout follower of God who had never manifested demons before, until Christ was present.)
  • Just eight verses later (v. 34), Mark recounts, that same day in the evening, Jesus “drove out many demons.” That’s a lot of deliverance in one day!
  • Five verses later (a. 39), Mark says again that Jesus continued “driving out demons.”
  • All total, there are 14 references in Mark to casting out demons.
  • There are just 10 references to healing, and two to preaching.

What more incontrovertible evidence do we need? Yes, Mark isn’t the only gospel. Luke uses the word “demons” 18 times; Matthew 12 times. And how many times has your pastor used the word “demons” lately? How many times have you heard your favorite TV preacher refer to demons in the context of genuine exorcism and deliverance?

The documentation is overwhelming. Only John’s gospel goes light on this issue; but as Course 9, Level 1, of our School of Exorcism explains, the Johannine epistles and his Revelation frequently reference demons and Satan’s kingdom. If anything, the subject of casting out demons is OVEREMPHASIZED in the first three gospels, not under-mentioned. Should followers of Christ and Christian leaders do any less? Never accuse good deliverance ministries of a theological imbalance; the exegetical disequilibrium is on the side of those who neglect or oppose exorcism!

An encouraging word: REJOICE WHEN GOD TESTS YOU

Psalm 11:5 says, “The Lord tests the righteous” (NKJV). What’s the point of that? Why not leave them alone? Why not test the ungodly? Why try (KJV) those who are doing their best to serve the Lord? Because God wants us to be better, therefore He tests our faith. For our own good, He lovingly pushes us onward and higher. Perhaps He has more wonderful things in store for us and doesn’t want us slacking off short of the greatness of our goal. So, when the Lord tests you, rejoice. He’s putting His confidence in you that you’re capable of doing even more for him. The test is His way of showing that.

End of the World

A few weeks ago, the citizens of Hawaii thought they were facing the end of the world, or at least a nuclear explosion on their islands. By now you’ve heard the story of the erroneous warning that went out: BALLISTIC MISSLE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Of course, it turned out to be an accidental alert and was rescinded 38 minutes later. But the false alarm had people scurrying for cover and looking to place blame. Actor-commedian Jim Carrey, immediately blamed Trump by tweeting, “If we allow this one-man Gomorrah and his corrupt Republican congress to continue alienating the world we are headed for suffering beyond all imagination.” Gomorrah? This assessment from a man who recently suffered a widely-reported, nervous breakdown and whose girlfriend committed suicide, using prescription pills from a Carrey alias. Hmmm.

No, Hawaii wasn’t facing the end of the world, but the panic that ensured that false alarm gives me pause for thought on how people deal with the prospect of annihilation. The French writer Proust wrote in 1922, long before the era of Little Rocket Man, “I think that life would suddenly seem wonderful to us if we were threatened to die. Just think of how many projects, travels, love affairs, studies, our life hides from us, invisible by our laziness which, certain of a future, delays them incessantly.”

Think of that in spiritual terms. If we really knew that Jesus were coming tomorrow, or next week, or even next year, how different would we live? Would most people really get serious about God, or like Carrey, look for someone else to blame for impending Armageddon? “Take heed, watch and prayer; for you do not know when the time is,” Jesus warned in Mark 13:33. The end of the world will come, and it won’t be announced on cell phones. Not knowing when, what should you be doing today for Him that you put off yesterday? How lazy are you, about using your spiritual gifts, when you think there will always be time to serve in His Kingdom?

An encouraging word: YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Sometimes I feel like David in Psalm 12:1: Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. Ever felt like you were alone in your zeal for the Lord? Most Christian have. I have. Like Elijah we may feel we are the only ones faithful. But God reminded the prophet that seven thousand had not yet bowed to the idol Baal (1 Kings 19:18). Be encouraged, the Lord has others who have remained faithful and someday we shall rejoice together around His throne.

Islamic-Christian Nation

Let me start by saying I believe in the American way of freedom of religion. I also recognize that there are many decent Muslims who love this country and respect Christians. But there are also many Muslims who want to take over the world and re-establish a caliphate, a worldwide rule of Islamic law, under Sharia law. That could include, as it does in countries currently ruled by Sharia law, capital punishment for disrespecting the Koran or Muhammad, death for converting to Christianity, one husband having up to four wives, marrying girls as young as nine, allowing wife-beating, males unilaterally divorcing their wives, a divorced wife has no custody of children over age six, adultery and homosexuality punishable by death. The list goes on, but this isn’t a pleasant starting point. Also, Sharia law is allowed in many parts of Europe, including sections of Greece, the Netherlands (through so-called “arbitration councils”), and Belgium (Antwerp).

What’s the concern? According to a just-released report by The Pew Research Center, within two decades Islam will replace Judaism as the second most followed religion in America. That will turn us from a Judeo-Christian nation into an Islamic-Christian nation. Why is this happening? Immigration. Three-fourths of Muslim in the U. S. are immigrants or children of immigrants. And they have a higher fertility rate. This does provide an excellent opportunity for evangelism, but the downside is obvious. Beyond increased terrorism fears, there is likely to be an accelerated loss of basic Christian belief as a bedrock of our civilization. And if we follow Europe, a gradual incursion of Sharia Law.

Many immigrant Muslims come from countries where Islam is aligned with various forms of shamanism and black magic. Think Afghanistan and Iraq. I know, I have ministered to people from these countries who were demonized by the aberrant, occult Islam in such lands. A combination of occult Islam, Sharia law, and latent jihadism is a combustible mixture that could spell the end of America as we know it.

I’m not suggesting we keep people out just because they are Muslim, when many are only cultural, non-observant Muslims. But America does need to decide how far religious pluralism is to be taken. Our system of law and justice is based on English Common Law, which was based on the Bible. Don’t dismiss the possibility that future courts in America will be pressured to accept Sharia concepts, gradually at first but then in a landslide. Whether or not you accept gay marriage, it was unthinkable two decades ago. Will Sharia law follow that same trajectory? Who is to say that it won’t?

An encouraging word: LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS

People love a lot of things today, their smartphones, their cars, their computing devices, their X-Boxes, whatever. But it could seldom be said that they love righteousness. But that’s exactly what the Word says God loves: For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness (Psalm 11:7 NKJV). Christians should want what God wants and love what He loves. False cults are filled with the love of self, sex, wealth, power, whatever fills the narcissistic void of a sinful heart. But true religion is the love of what the heart of God pursues, and this Psalm clearly instructs us to love what which is righteous.
