Pop Culture Hypocrisy
Past Christmases have seen battles over Baby Jesus crèches in the public square and questions about whether to say, “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays.” But who could have predicted that a 1940’s music classic, “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” would stir controversy? People who usually could care less about public morality have suddenly become overheated about a song suggesting hanky-panky in cold climes. The MeToo Movement has been apoplectic over this issue. Some radio stations stopped playing the song. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the national Canadian broadcasting network, pulled the tune off its radio affiliates. This Christmas classic went from being flirty to a date-rape anthem. Most people’s disgust centered on a lyric that said, “Say, what’s in this drink?”
I’d like to ask the question, “Why this sudden culture moral outrage when worse than this has dominated the pop music charts for decades?” Where were these same middle-age moralists when Kiss sang, “No place to hide, no place to run, you pulled the trigger on my love gun.” Or when AC/DC sang, “I’m on the highway to hell?” Also, fast forward to new millennium rap, with these examples:
WARNING, COARSE LANGUAGE
“Bitches ain’t **** but hoes and tricks.” – Snoop Dogg
“You only **** with actors, you’re still getting ****ed backwards.” – Jay Z
“My little sister’s birthday, for a gift I had ten of my boys take her virginity.” – Eminem
“She could have a Grammy, I treat her *** like a nominee.” – Drake
These are only four examples of rap/hip-hop misogyny and vulgarity. I could quite literally give many thousands of other references. These kinds of lyrics, and much worse, bombard the airwaves every day, without any public outcry. Rap and pop artists use the most vile and demonic language imaginable on CD after CD, download after download, and nobody blinks. And the same people who tolerate daily, pop culture assaults on public decency are worried about “Baby, it’s cold outside?” That’s hypocrisy at its worst. I’m not defending this song; however, if these phony moral guardians of a Christmas song want to express outrage, let them focus on the real travesty of Christmas — the drunken, partying celebration of the day we memorialize as Christ coming to earth to save us from our sins. My suggestion is quit worrying about how cold it is outside and think about how hot Hell will be if you fail to put Christ in Christmas and put Jesus in your heart.
An encouraging word: Wicked Deceit
“The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise andto do good.” These words of Psalm 36:3 describe the destructive progression of sin. First, the work of wickedness is deception. The evil men speak is spiritual fraud. Second, such deception leads to a forsaking of wisdom. Foolishness takes over. Finally, wickedness and foolishness bring evil actions, and the sinning individual ceases to “do good.” If you see yourself somewhere in this progression from self-deception to evil actions, stop now, repent, and return to the truth of God’s word.
Satanic Merry Christmas
Next to a Christmas tree, near a menorah, and not far from a baby Jesus crèche, is a symbol of Satanism. And it’s in the rotunda of the Illinois statehouse, invoking a satanic merry Christmas this year. The sculpture, called “Snaketivity,” depicts a snake around a woman’s hand holding an apple. As in the photo above, a plaque features the Baphomet demon symbol and pentagram with the words “Knowledge is the Greatest gift.” This absurdity is the work of the publicity-hungry Satanic Temple organization, the new millennium incarnation of Anton Lavey’s Church of Satan.
The State of Illinois defends this grotesque display by claiming the First Amendment requires such a ludicrous, offensive stunt. And what if the Rene Guyon Society, which advocates for sex with children (Their slogan is “Sex before eight or else it’s too late.”) wants to have pederasty displayed on a pedestal next year, who’s to stop them?
This Satanic Temple group is the same bunch who sued Warner Bros. for using an image of their statue of Baphomet (the cloven-hoofed, goat-horned image of Lucifer) in the TV series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” This is the new teenage witch show that features the Riverdale teen selling her soul to Satan, drinking human blood, and eating human flesh. That this tiny group of Luciferian malcontents should infringe upon the spiritual sensitivities of millions of taxpaying citizens of Illinois is beyond comprehension. Let’s get something straight; in Illinois, advocates of the satanic Temple represent approximately .0002% of the population. Not 2%. Not .02%. Not even .002%. This travesty is only possible with judicial and legislative insanity out of control.
On the other hand, this publicity stunt is pathetically humorous. Psalm 2:4 says of those who defy God, “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision” (NKJV). Or as the NIV states, “The Lord scoffs at them.” And someday, as the following verse says, the Lord will rebuke such in his anger and terrify them in his wrath. Satanists may have placed a symbol of Lucifer in Illinois, but the Lord says this Christmas season, in this Messianic Psalm, “I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.”
An encouraging word: HOW TO APPROACH GOD
“With what shall I come before the Lord?” That rhetorical question, asked by the prophet Micah (1:6), introduces his lament that God wants more than the formality of sacrifices done out of some ritualistic formality. God will not be pleased even with “thousands of rams” (v. 7). The Lord wants us, our praise, our worship, our contriteness, and our whole heart. Approaching God with the works of our hands brings His rebuke. Bowing before Him with brokenness and repentance brings his favor and blessing.
Keep the Occult Out of Christmas
Last Halloween I wrote a blog entitled “Halloween Hangover,” with the photo of
a nearby house. It was decked out with symbols of death and the occult. For
Christmas, this same yard is filled with toy soldiers, snowmen, and Santa. No
creche. No Christ in Christmas. Toy soldiers and candy canes aren’t demonic,
but the secularization of Christmas is evil.
That’s why my daughter Brynne wrote “The Dark Side of the Supernatural.” From the perspective of a young woman, her book warns peers and parents about:
- Playing with Ouija boards.
- Reading paranormal romance novels.
- Being fascinated with vampire movies.
- Having any associations with Harry Potter.
This 160-page book sells for $15.00, but for Christmas we’re offering 5 copies for just $25.00. Keep one for yourself and give the others away to friends and family! Plus, your gift will support our mission to raise up Warriors for Christ.
Each book is personally autographed and prayed over by Brynne and me!

An encouraging word: MAKE PRUDENT CHOICES
A scripture I memorized many years ago, came to my mind today: “A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished” (Proverbs 22:3). The heart of this matter is that most of the difficulties we all encounter are the result of poor judgment or outright disobedience to God. A truly wise person anticipates the future and keeps himself from the consequences of sinful actions. Take a moment and review the choices you’ve made today and ask yourself if all your decision have been prudent. If not, be more careful in the future to “hide” yourself from the punishment of unwise decisions. To “hide” is to seek wise counsel from trusted people and prayerfully evaluate every significant option before you.
To Most People, This is Christmas.
