End of the World

A few weeks ago, the citizens of Hawaii thought they were facing the end of the world, or at least a nuclear explosion on their islands. By now you’ve heard the story of the erroneous warning that went out: BALLISTIC MISSLE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Of course, it turned out to be an accidental alert and was rescinded 38 minutes later. But the false alarm had people scurrying for cover and looking to place blame. Actor-commedian Jim Carrey, immediately blamed Trump by tweeting, “If we allow this one-man Gomorrah and his corrupt Republican congress to continue alienating the world we are headed for suffering beyond all imagination.” Gomorrah? This assessment from a man who recently suffered a widely-reported, nervous breakdown and whose girlfriend committed suicide, using prescription pills from a Carrey alias. Hmmm.

No, Hawaii wasn’t facing the end of the world, but the panic that ensured that false alarm gives me pause for thought on how people deal with the prospect of annihilation. The French writer Proust wrote in 1922, long before the era of Little Rocket Man, “I think that life would suddenly seem wonderful to us if we were threatened to die. Just think of how many projects, travels, love affairs, studies, our life hides from us, invisible by our laziness which, certain of a future, delays them incessantly.”

Think of that in spiritual terms. If we really knew that Jesus were coming tomorrow, or next week, or even next year, how different would we live? Would most people really get serious about God, or like Carrey, look for someone else to blame for impending Armageddon? “Take heed, watch and prayer; for you do not know when the time is,” Jesus warned in Mark 13:33. The end of the world will come, and it won’t be announced on cell phones. Not knowing when, what should you be doing today for Him that you put off yesterday? How lazy are you, about using your spiritual gifts, when you think there will always be time to serve in His Kingdom?

An encouraging word: YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Sometimes I feel like David in Psalm 12:1: Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. Ever felt like you were alone in your zeal for the Lord? Most Christian have. I have. Like Elijah we may feel we are the only ones faithful. But God reminded the prophet that seven thousand had not yet bowed to the idol Baal (1 Kings 19:18). Be encouraged, the Lord has others who have remained faithful and someday we shall rejoice together around His throne.

Islamic-Christian Nation

Let me start by saying I believe in the American way of freedom of religion. I also recognize that there are many decent Muslims who love this country and respect Christians. But there are also many Muslims who want to take over the world and re-establish a caliphate, a worldwide rule of Islamic law, under Sharia law. That could include, as it does in countries currently ruled by Sharia law, capital punishment for disrespecting the Koran or Muhammad, death for converting to Christianity, one husband having up to four wives, marrying girls as young as nine, allowing wife-beating, males unilaterally divorcing their wives, a divorced wife has no custody of children over age six, adultery and homosexuality punishable by death. The list goes on, but this isn’t a pleasant starting point. Also, Sharia law is allowed in many parts of Europe, including sections of Greece, the Netherlands (through so-called “arbitration councils”), and Belgium (Antwerp).

What’s the concern? According to a just-released report by The Pew Research Center, within two decades Islam will replace Judaism as the second most followed religion in America. That will turn us from a Judeo-Christian nation into an Islamic-Christian nation. Why is this happening? Immigration. Three-fourths of Muslim in the U. S. are immigrants or children of immigrants. And they have a higher fertility rate. This does provide an excellent opportunity for evangelism, but the downside is obvious. Beyond increased terrorism fears, there is likely to be an accelerated loss of basic Christian belief as a bedrock of our civilization. And if we follow Europe, a gradual incursion of Sharia Law.

Many immigrant Muslims come from countries where Islam is aligned with various forms of shamanism and black magic. Think Afghanistan and Iraq. I know, I have ministered to people from these countries who were demonized by the aberrant, occult Islam in such lands. A combination of occult Islam, Sharia law, and latent jihadism is a combustible mixture that could spell the end of America as we know it.

I’m not suggesting we keep people out just because they are Muslim, when many are only cultural, non-observant Muslims. But America does need to decide how far religious pluralism is to be taken. Our system of law and justice is based on English Common Law, which was based on the Bible. Don’t dismiss the possibility that future courts in America will be pressured to accept Sharia concepts, gradually at first but then in a landslide. Whether or not you accept gay marriage, it was unthinkable two decades ago. Will Sharia law follow that same trajectory? Who is to say that it won’t?

An encouraging word: LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS

People love a lot of things today, their smartphones, their cars, their computing devices, their X-Boxes, whatever. But it could seldom be said that they love righteousness. But that’s exactly what the Word says God loves: For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness (Psalm 11:7 NKJV). Christians should want what God wants and love what He loves. False cults are filled with the love of self, sex, wealth, power, whatever fills the narcissistic void of a sinful heart. But true religion is the love of what the heart of God pursues, and this Psalm clearly instructs us to love what which is righteous.

Pothead Politicians

I was in California a week ago and came across two things that makes me wonder about the sanity of the Golden State’s leaders. Worried that Trump is unstable? Don’t throw stones if you call California home. First, the photo on the left. If you’re building a new public facility in California (I saw this at the San Diego airport.) you now have to construct three bathrooms: men, women, and “all-gender.” Sooner or later some special interest group will demand equal potty-time and the politicians will yield and add a fourth bathroom . . . and a fifth, and who knows where it will stop.

But even more absurd is the plan to help minorities achieve financial success. By holding seminars on investments? By educationally empowering the less fortunate to acquire a marketable skill? NO. Politicians in the state of California, which January 1 legalized recreational marijuana, have proposed a plan to train minorities on how to sell weed and become marijuana entrepreneurs. You think I’m joking. I’m not. As the policy proposes, if you live in a black neighborhood, AND you have a prison record (BECAUSE A DRUG CRIME would prevent you from getting a business loan), the state will loan you money INTEREST FREE to set up a POT SHOP. (This is so unbelievable I had to add the capital letters.) And remember you can ONLY get this help if you are black. White potheads need not apply.

African Americans should be outraged. It is their communities which have been most affected by the crime and violence of their neighborhood black drug dealers. And now the law-abiding citizens of the inner city are expected to welcome back these drug thugs who will be given taxpayer money to sell the stuff that destroyed their lives in the first place. We can only shake our heads at this moral insanity and remember the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:4 that the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not follow God. The worst of all this isn’t just the absurdity of criminal potheads being paid to sell pot, but the pothead politicians who will make it possible. Everyone who has any part in this whole scheme needs an exorcism, and I’m available.

An encouraging word: Pothead politicians

We all need to hear God’s voice more than we do. Psalm 29:4 says, “The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.” The psalmist goes on in this this chapter to state many ways that God’s voice expresses power, all instances of might and majesty. He ends by saying, “The Lord sits as King forever.” We see here that the key to hearing God’s voice is having an eternal perspective. When we hear the voice of God, especially through His Word, we know that what we receive has eternal significance. God doesn’t speak from the perspective of a few years or even a lifetime. What the Lord speaks is rooted in wisdom from eternity past, and will prevail for eternity future.

No Coexistence!

There it was, an illuminated display of the Christian cross, along with symbols of other religions: yin-yang for Taoism, Star of David for Judaism, peace symbol, crescent of Islam, science relativity, i for Buddhism. The only thing missing was the usual “coexist” conglomerate including a pentagram for Wicca (Witchcraft). My family and I were enjoying a drive-thru Christmas display that was quite spectacular. Brightly lit Christmas trees, prancing horses, snowmen, and other festive representations, all to the accompaniment of Christmas carols. But what to my wandering eye should appear – a huge COEXIST symbol. At Christmas? Are you kidding? I took a quick photo to document this spiritual injustice.

If you are expecting me to respond with some kind of tolerant, peaceful, graciousness, forget it. I’m outraged. You’ve seen this symbol before on bumper stickers, but to inject it into the “reason for the season” is an affront. No turning the other cheek here. I’m Ok with the Star of David, because the roots of Christianity are in the Hebrew faith. But putting the other religious expressions on the same plane as the virgin born Son of God in the manger is worse than saying “Seasons Greetings,” a phrase I find compromising. Islam doesn’t believe Jesus died for the sins of the world. “The way” of Taoism is about going with the flow, and that is not what Jesus did on the way to cross. Buddhism is a system of ethical performances without a sacrificial savior. None of these symbols has the right to coexist at Christmas.

Let’s get it straight. Mohammed is dead. Buddha is dead. Lao Tse Tung is dead. Einstein is dead. JESUS IS ALIVE, and He clearly stated, “I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life; no man comes to the Father [God] except through me.” Put that on a bumper sticker.

As for me and my house, no coexistence. Respect, politeness, thoughtfulness – yes. Intelligent discussion about differences, absolutely. But for the true child of God, truth matters. We’re not saved to sing kumbaya. We have a clear message, first spoken about Christ by the apostle Peter: “There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” No coexistence at Christmas. Save it for a more appropriate day to celebrate: Halloween!

An encouraging word: STUDY GOD’S WORD

One of many things I discovered doing deliverance is that the devil’s kingdom is multi-faceted and unbelievably complex. Most Christians have a simplistic view of Satan. He’s far more sophisticated and ingenious than imagined. This means that Christians need to seriously understand their faith and their authority in Christ to overcome demonic evil. Second Timothy 1:15 instructs us to “study” to prove that we are capable of “rightly dividing the word of truth.” It’s okay to read the Bible for inspiration and comfort, but we also need to seriously study Scripture to fight the fight of faith. New Year’s Greetings

In 1972, at the age of nine, she was pictured in a Pulitzer Prize-winning photo, that some think was the beginning of the end of the Viet Nam war. With her arms outstretched and naked, she epitomized the horror of war especially the ugly effects of burning napalm that clung to the skin in a fiery fury. She was caught, as a child, in the wrong place in an ugly war, innocent and terrified. Over the years she had many surgeries for her burns and unimaginable pain. I read her story recently in a “Wall Street Journal” article. But as I read her account of pain and terror as a child, I was surprised half way through the report to learn that it was this tragic event that brought her to Jesus. The “Journal” isn’t known for extoling the virtues of Christian faith, but there on its pages was a clear witness of Jesus. In Kim’s own words, “The same bombs that caused so much pain and suffering also brought me to a place of great healing. Those bombs led me to Jesus Christ.”

If you’re looking for New Year’s inspiration, this is it, Romans 8:28 come to life: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. And I might add Romans 8:18: For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

In 2018, I can assure you of several things. If the Lord doesn’t come, you and I will have tribulations of various kinds, some greater and some lesser.

Life won’t always come at us with a velvet glove. There will be some hard punches thrown our way. But the message of Kim Phuc, and the Word of God, is that Jesus will bring glory to himself through us if we allow it. My second guarantee for 2018 is that the devil won’t be giving up. Spiritual warfare will increase. War on the Saints will intensify. But God’s grace will be greater!

At year’s end, the airline I mostly fly from Phoenix, American Airlines, issued to their top travelers (Yes, I rack up enough miles to qualify.) a summary of their lives in the air. I’ve been so busy this past year going from city to city, airport to airport, I never thought about what it all meant. So, American’s computers gave me this information: 182 actual hours in the sky (not counting being in airports going and coming); 3 times around the world. And there were other airlines I flew in 2017 that added to that total. What American Airlines couldn’t calculate was how many people were saved and how many precious souls were freed from the torment of Satan. That number is incalculable, in the 10 nations to which we traveled, plus millions more via YouTube.

To do all that, God gave me the anointing and the energy, our partners and friends gave us the prayers and support. With your help, we’ll make 2018 an even greater year of setting the captives free! Have a blessed and spiritually prosperous new Year!

An encouraging word: FORGIVENESS FOR SIN

In response to crime, some states have passed draconian “three strikes” or “four strikes” laws to get repeat criminals off the streets. It’s working, but our prisons are being filled with some whose lifetime sentence hardly fits the crime. In Louisiana a convict named Timothy Jackson is serving a life sentence for stealing a jacket. Problem was, it was his fourth burglary and now “he’s out,” incarcerated for good, a questionable act of justice. Thank God, spiritually speaking, there are no lifetime sentences without parole. Christ is always ready to forgive our transgressions. With Jesus there is no permanent detention if we repent. “The gift of God is eternal life,” we are promised in Romans 6:23, no matter what we’ve done.
