Exorcist for President?

Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana, is running for President. He made the announcement yesterday. At age 44, he is #15 among declared or likely GOP candidates. And like another Presidential candidate, Marco Rubio, he has an interesting background when it comes to spiritual warfare. In my blog of April 20, I reported on Florida Senator Marco Rubio. Like Jindal, Rubio is a Catholic, but both have evangelical leanings. In that April blog, entitled “Marco Rubio’s Demons,” I pointed out that Rubio has attended a Miami area church that practices deliverance. The pastor, Rick Blackwood, has said, “Satan’s agenda is to seduce people away from God. One of the ways that Satan accomplishes that is through what the Bile calls demonic possession. Satan’s angels can seize control of an individual and possess an individual physically, spiritually and even mentally.” For that pastor’s comment, Rubio has taken heat.

Now, Religious News Services reminds us of an article in the uber-liberal magazine
Mother Jones. Jones
reveals that a little over 20 years ago, while in college, Jindal participated in an exorcism. Jindal is reported to have said,
“Kneeling on the ground, my friends were chanting, ‘Satan, I command you to leave this woman.’ Others exhorted all demons to leave in the name of Christ.” Wow. Imagine. Someone is running for President who has actually witnessed and participated in an exorcism! That will bring nightmares to Bill Maher, MSNBC-TV, and political progressives everywhere.

This interesting insight may never be more than a political footnote relegated to the arcane. But for churches that choose to ignore this realm of the supernatural by dismissing it as “strange,” it signals that they should rethink their position. Marco, a Senator, and Jindal a Governor, aren’t exactly fringe figures. And if they accept the reality of demonic possession and exorcism it’s time for conservative Christians to rethink their opposition to spiritual warfare.

An encouraging word: AVOID THE YOKE OF BONDAGE

“Do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage,” the apostle Paul told the Galatians (5:1). That verse addressed the attempts of some new Christian converts to mix the old laws of Judaism with Christianity. Paul emphasized the liberty that is in Christ and warned against reverting to Old Testament edicts which did not bring the life of the Spirit. In larger sense, this verse warns us against anything that keeps us bound and unable to enjoy the freedom that is our in the Lord. You may not be coerced to keep ancient Levitical laws, but today you will be faced with all kinds of temptations that bring a “yoke of bandage.” Identify these dangers and avoid them at all cost.

Massacre in Charleston

It’s happened before. The people of Wedgewood Baptist Church of Ft. Worth, Texas understand what the members of Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina are going through. While the nation mourns the nine souls who were massacred in cold blood by Dylan Storm Roof on Wednesday June, 17, I can’t help but think about September 15, 1999 when Larry Gene Ashbrook walked into a youth rally at Wedgewood carrying 200 rounds of ammunition and a pipe bomb. Ashbrook killed seven before finally killing himself. From calls for gun control to pleas for a return to old-time-religion, most are missing the point.

This tragedy is not just about bigotry and violence. The methodical coolness of the killings speaks to a mindset that Roof had which can only be described as demonized. This incident was satanic. Demons obviously tormented the mind of this young killer, aided by the fog of illicit drugs. But before preachers jump on the bandwagon to blame the devil and demons, I have to ask: Why lay the fault at hell’s gates unless you are willing to go to war against these kinds of demons in your own backyard? Don’t say it’s satanic unless you are declaring war on demons and the devil in a practical way by equipping the saints to cast out demons.

A little known fact of the Wedgewood shooting is that Larry Gene Ashbrook was reported to have walked into that church some days earlier and approached a female staff member with the question, “Is there anyone here who can do an exorcism?” The woman was so disturbed by the question (How I wish the answer would have been an immediate YES!) she left, and when she came back he was gone. But Ashbook, who somehow must have sensed his inner demons, returned to murder seven innocent souls.

And what of Dylan Storm Roof? Did a Christian cross his life in some way, and could they have prevented this tragedy if they had confronted directly his diabolically inspired racism? We’ll probably never know. But others like Ashbrook and and Roof still walk our streets. They are armed, demon possessed, and dangerous. Only those who know spiritual warfare will be able to stop them. That’s why we’ve launched our International School of Exorcism?, to raise up an army, trained in hardcore combat with the forces of evil. Please, pray for and support this effort. And if you haven’t yet enrolled, do so now. Properly trained in spiritual warfare, you may be the one who stops the next massacre before it happens.

An encouraging word: ARISE O LORD

“Arise, O Lord,” the psalmist David cried in Psalm 11:12. I admit that brings a smile to my face. What was David thinking? Did he need to awaken God to his situation? Did the Lord need reminded that David was in dire circumstance and wanted deliverance? Of course not. God is all-knowing of every moment of every challenge we face in life. Perhaps David was just being rhetorical. Or maybe David was so consumed by the struggles he faced that he’d forgotten the Lord never slumbers or sleeps and is never caught off-guard by our circumstances. I think this was David’s poetic way of reminding himself of God’s power and desire to intervene on his behalf. Perhaps today is one of those days that you need to cry out as David did, “Arise, O Lord.”

America Needs Deliverance

I’ve just returned from our mission to Africa, and I am struggling with the same feelings I always have when I return from ministry overseas. Of course, it’s good to be home, and I’m anxious to resume my normal schedule of seminars and Personal Spiritual Encounters. But my heart aches for the church in America that has shunned the ministry of deliverance. Get beyond the shores of America and people are so much more open to the reality of the spirit world of evil. Day after day, during this most recent outreach, I ministered to Africans who had no problem defining their issues as being demonic. May times they would say almost the same words, “The doctors say my problems are physical or mental, but they haven’t found a diagnosis or a cure yet. But I know it’s demons that are tormenting me.” And in about 80% of the cases, they were right.

The many days I spent in ministry in Africa were refreshing. The people seeking help manifested their evil spirits within minutes of prayer. I didn’t have to prepare them, coax them to yield to supernatural ministry, or give long explanations of what might happen. Repeatedly, I heard them all say, “I’m ready. Let’s do it. I can feel the demons moving inside me. They torment me with dreams, I see them. They crawl on my body. I want them out!”

Americans don’t have fewer demons, they just have more sophisticated rationales for explaining away the truth about the source of some suffering. And they have been brainwashed by preachers and teachers who know nothing of the deliverance ministry but claim to be experts on all things demonic. Hour after hour, in dozens of sessions in Africa, I had the privilege of seeing desperate and tortured people receive the healing of Jesus. This could and should happen in America. We don’t have less demonic bondage, just more clever ways of avoiding the truth about our spiritual condition. America needs deliverance, and the longer we avoid the reality, the longer Christians suffer needlessly. We need not be imbalanced and blame everything on the devil to accept the idea that at least some of the spiritual and moral issues we face as a nation will never be solved without spiritual warfare.

An encouraging word: ALL HAVE SINNED

Romans 3:23 is one of the first Bible verses that most new Christians learn It is so simple and direct, and so oft quoted, we may forget the simplicity of its proclamation. ALL have sinned. You, me, everyone who has ever lived, going back to Adam. Yet today one hardly hears the word “sin.” It’s not spoken in polite social circles, in Hollywood or the hall of congress, and even some pulpits. But we can never be free from sin until we admit that basic fact: every human being from Pope to potentate, pastor to penitent, has sinned. The personal recognition of evil in one’s own life is the first step to salvation and admitting the need of a Savior. Have you acknowledge that you have sinned?

Born Evil Part 2

A little more than a week ago on May 28, I addressed the issue of whether or not an individual can be born with a demon, born evil. (To read “Born Evil, Part 1,” CLICK HERE.) At that time I choose the biblical example of the Canaanite woman whose daughter was demon possessed. This time let’s consider the demonized man in the synagogue described in Mark chapter one. Clearly, this man could not have manifested such violent demonic behavior before or he wouldn’t have been allowed in the synagogue. He obviously had been attending “church” on a regular basis and was known to the other attendees. His age we don’t know, but he would have been an adult. My point is that there is no evidence that this man acquired his demons through any deliberately evil acts on his part. Otherwise, Christ would rebuked him to go and sin no more. Rather, he was a godly Jew with a good reputation and no previous evidence of such satanic actions.

So, where did this man who convulsed, screamed, and shook violently get his demons? It’s reasonable to assume that the evil spirits were there all along, from birth. They were hiding and waiting for some opportunity to strike him. Instead, Christ appeared on the scene and interrupted their plans. This man was the victim of some generational curse, the inherited iniquity of his ancestors. As with all family curses, such evil is an influence or predisposition which can be overruled at least temporarily by positive spiritual conduct. Not everyone who is “born evil,” in the sense of inherited curses, gives in to the negative impulses. But such clandestine curses must be eradicated, just like a disease in remission, so that there is never a time when this perversity will rise up, for any reason, to afflict the soul of the unknowingly demonized individual.

An encouraging word: GOD CREATED THE SUN

The Bible speaks of creation in poetic ways, but make no mistake. There is no intention to question that all creation is the handiwork of God. Of the sun, the psalmist said, “In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun (Psalm 19:4).”  What a beautiful picture of how God separated light from darkness by the sun. In the darkness of our universe, without a glimmer of light, the Almighty gave us the illumination of our solar system. A gigantic ball of fire in the sky would light every corner of our globe, and planets beyond. How God did this, and how long it took, may be matters of sincere debate. But make no mistake, God make it all happen.  And this is the same God who illuminates your life.

Generational Curses are Real Part 2

This is the 2nd part of my series on generational curses. Be sure to read Part #1 before proceeding. (To read CLICK HERE.)

The reality of generational curses is resisted by the majority of evangelical Christians in America. Not so once you leave our shores. In most of the Caribbean, South and Central America, Africa, India, Asia, and the Far East such teachings are readily accepted. America has enjoyed the benefits of roughly 400 years of Christian culture. Historically, no one had to deliver most Americans from tribalism, idolatry, and ancestor worship. (That is rapidly changing with the influx of the New Age and eastern religions.) There are essentially four uniquely American theological adaptations that resist the idea of inheriting the evil one’s ancestors. This subject is covered thoroughly in my book CURSE BREAKING: Freedom from the Bondage of Generational Sin. (To order CLICK HERE.) Below is a very brief analysis of four theological viewpoints that resist the idea of inherited curses. I’m not suggesting that these viewpoints automatically deny the reality of generational sins, but a misreading of these doctrinal viewpoints has led many to deny bloodline evil. I’m not stating fact below but rather how each perspective wrongly colors this issue.

REFORMED/CALVINIST: If one is predestined to be either blessed or cursed, then the choices of evil ancestors have no bearing. An individual’s spiritual standing with God is a matter of election and sovereign design, and therefore predisposed tendencies to evil are irrelevant.

WESLEYIAN/HOLINESS: If one is fully sanctified by a “second work of grace,” there can be no place for generational curses to abide. All inherited evil tendencies are eradicated.

ANABAPTIST/BAPTIST: An incorrect view of “once saved, always saved” has caused many pastors to teach that beyond salvation there can be nothing left of original sin or inherited iniquities.

PENTECOSTAL/CHARISMATIC: If speaking in tongues is the “sign” of the “fullness” of the Spirit’s presence, then this spiritual gift precludes that one who is “filled” can have anything else abiding spiritually or genetically.

The fallacies of these positions will be dealt with at another time. I merely intend to show that these dominant evangelical ideas, when taken to wrong conclusions, hinder Christians from receiving full deliverance for all the inherited bondage of the Enemy.

An encouraging word: DOCTRINES OF DEMONS

In 1 Timothy 4:1 the apostle Paul warns that, in the last days, some Christians will be deceived by teachings that come from demons. Such deception would not be possible were it not for the close resemblance such teachings have to the truth. The things about which Paul warns are not just opinions or alternative viewpoints about the things of God. These idea come straight from demons and must be recognized as such. As with any counterfeit, the way to tell error is by the measure of truth. The tragedy about which this verse forewarns us is only possible if the Word of God is not honored and taught. Stay in the Word today so that no doctrine of demons overcomes you.

Generational Curses are Real Part 1

Are curses for real? Can an individual be tormented in this life for the evil of ancestors many years ago? Can an enemy place a curse via witchcraft that will affect a Christian? Are all curses canceled by being saved? Are curses the stuff of Disney movies and voodoo priests or a practical aspect of ordinary life? Could you have a curse holding back your health and finances, trying to destroy your relationships, and hindering your walk with the Lord?

I’ve written an entire book on the subject of curses. (CURSE BREAKING: Freedom from the Bondage of Generational Sin -To order CLICK HERE.) Our YouTube Exorcism Channel (To view or subscribe CLICK HERE.) hosts scores of videos of real people who suffered from generational curses. Are they all to be discounted? One large church (not in the U.S.) where I ministered before to thousands, where phenomenal public deliverances occurred, has since has “disinvited” me because they now teach that generational curses aren’t real. I’m astounded that they could deny what was obviously evidenced before their own eyes.

In this brief blog I can’t state all the reasons supporting the thesis that curses are real and can affect Christians, but here are a few bullet points:

  • Exodus 20:5 & 34:7 establish the perpetuity of evil visited on successive generations.
  • Christ was cursed for us (Gal. 3:13), but just as with salvation the promise must be possessed.
  • We are protected from curses by our walk with Christ (Prov. 26:2), but personal sin opens the door (For example, the death of King David’s illegitimate child – Deut. 23:2 & 2 Sam. 12:15-18.).
  • The iniquity of our ancestors who have spoken an evil oath (Matt. 12:35-37) may result in some calamity (Matt. 5:37).
  • Our ministry files document thousands of exorcism where demons tormented because of generational curses. Are all these case studies to be summarily dismissed?
  • We have conducted thousands of public exorcisms when vast numbers of people have witnessed the testimony of demons validating their right to possess by generational curses. Are all these instances bogus? Are all these people psychotic? Could all this be explained away as some kind of induced suggestion to weak-minded people who repeat the same litany over and over through nearly four decades of ministry in thousands of cities in more than 100 countries and in scores of diverse cultures? That is just statistically and logically impossible.

There’s more to follow in my next blog.

An encouraging word: HIS NAME IS MAJESTIC

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” That sentiment from Psalm 8:1 flies in the face of the casual cursing of God’s name that is so often used in vain. His name is regularly “damned” in movies, on TV, and in casual conversations as if His name meant nothing. But His name is majestic, “excellent” in the KJV. And this verse tells us that this great Lord is OUR Lord. The Creator of the universe has a relationship with His created, we who are his beloved beings. No wonder that someday every tongue on the earth shall confess that He is Lord, “to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:11).
