Ancient stone carving of Incubus demon.

NOTE: This is the second of a two-part series on this topic. I have selected this topic because of the many requests from both victims and deliverance ministers who have asked me to put perspective on this highly controversial subject.

Finding a suitable photo to illustrate this blog wasn’t easy. The Internet is full of pornographic images of demons cohabiting with men and woman. Indeed, the idea of sex with demons is as old as antiquity. Incubus, from the Latin “incubo,” to “lie upon” occurs when a demon takes on male substance to cohabit with a woman. The female opposite is called succubus. Though the subject is taboo in Christian circles that has not always been so. St. Augustine dealt with the subject in “The City of God,” in which the Church Father stated, “There is also a very general rumor. Many have verified it by their own experience and trustworthy persons have corroborated the experience others told, that sylvan and fauns, commonly called incubi, have often made wicked assaults upon women.”

Whether in the context of spirit/female cohabiting with human/male or spirit/male cohabiting with human/female, the ultimate danger of supernatural sex is getting a demon. I’ve done hundreds of exorcisms on such individuals and can testify that this form of possession is hideous and difficult to overcome. Yielding one’s body to a ghostly lover is an open door to demonization of the soul. Here are some brief thoughts on dealing with this issue from the perspective of ministering to victims of demonic sexual molestation

  • Be careful about further shaming. The individual will likely have heavy doses of false guilt which any further condemnation won’t help dissipate.
  • Find out if the issue is generational, if any other family members have been victimized.
  • All sexual sin must be renounced and all ungodly relationships ended. The demon may have been sexually transferred and that link must be severed.
  • If a ritual or emotional marriage to this entity occurred, there must be a spiritual divorce, particularly if the cohabitant has been viewed as a “spiritual husband/wife”
  • Any pornography or sexual devices most be destroyed immediately. Whatever aroused the fantasies must be avoided.
  • Since many such episodes occur in waking or nocturnal states, defensive praying when going to bed is essential; have the victim take a holy object to bed, such as a Bible or cross.
  • There may be past involvement in the occult which opened the door, such as beliefs in spiritual lovers or alien cohabitation; renounce all such beliefs.
  • If the person is unmarried they should remain chaste while going through deliverance; if married their spouse must claim “one-flesh” authority over any such spiritual adultery.
  • Be careful to distinguish between psychosis and genuine episodes of demonic sexuality; this is difficult since such experiences are so surreal they dwell in parts of the imagination where fact and fantasy are sometimes blurred. Beware the individual who claims such experiences as the result of repressed sexual thoughts which haven’t been properly processed.
  • All self-induced sexual arousal must stop as this will invite further oppression.
  • Exorcism is necessary in most genuine cases; the most common demons encountered are Jezebel, Incubus, Succubus, Spiritual Rape, Spiritual Husband/Wife, Lilith.

We shall not at this point deal with questions of whether this is analogous to the human/demon cohabitation some think is referred to in Genesis, chapter 6. We also do not have enough space to discuss the controversy of whether demons are capable of inseminating humans and thus producing hybrid, half-human/half-demon offspring, so-called spawns of the devil. These issues will be explored in a future blog.

An encouraging word:  GOD WILL DELIVER YOU“Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.'” That lament of Psalm 3:2 reflects how many of us have felt at times. At the moment when we were most vulnerable, we were attacked.  It’s even worse when a friend is the persecutor. That was David’s difficulty. His own son, Absalom, was out to take his father’s kingdom and even David’s life. In such instances, don’t believe the lies of your pursuers. God WILL deliver you as you trust in Him and call upon His name. When your enemies distort the truth, even to say that you are beyond the Lord’s help, remind them that He will never leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). When evil men say that God won’t help you, you can be certain that is the opposite of what the Lord will do.

1968 poster promoting the demonic

Movie “Rosemary’s Baby.”

In 1968, Paramount Pictures released what was to become a classic horror film: Rosemary’s Baby. Mia Farrow played a pregnant woman who feared that her actor husband had made a deal with the devil. In exchange for movie stardom, her child would be a devil baby destined for sacrifice. She undergoes a visionary experience in which, the night she conceives her child, she is raped by a demon in front of her husband. Rosemary is later told that, during labor, her baby died. She eventually learns the baby is alive and is the spawn of Satan. The movie was written and directed by Roman Polanski, whose own wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Charles Manson family when she was eight-and-a-half months pregnant – the year after Rosemary’s Baby was released.

The phenomenon of some sort of demonic conjugation, usually known as incubus/succubus or “spiritual wife/husband,” is either dramatically increasing or participants are more willing to speak of it. In my seminars and Personal Encounter sessions, the topic comes up more and more; therefore, it’s important to know what it is and how to address the topic in a counseling and inner healing ministry context. Understandably, it’s a touchy topic, that some night think is more suited for private discussion, not a public forum. My reason for bringing this subject into the open is to let those who suffer know that they are not alone, and that there is hope and help. Tomorrow we’ll discuss more about the alarming rise in incidents of this kind of demonic attack and look for ways that the victims can fight back.

An encouraging word:  DISCOURAGEMENTDiscouragement is a tough place to be. When a series of circumstances seems to conspire to thwart all your hard work and good intentions, it’s easy to fall into despair. Add fatigue as a factor, and the depression can be overwhelming. We’ve all been there to a greater or lesser degree. It’s then that faith has to kick in —  the evidence of what we do not see. Faith is simply the internal, confident assurance that what we cannot see will be, because we know in our heart that the love of God will lead us to that place. If you are discouraged, look again at Hebrews 11:1 and know that, in spite of your discouragement, what you hope for is waiting for you even though you can’t see it right now.

Obama and Hinduism

Tuesday, June 10 2014
The masthead at the top of today’s blog, was a memorable photo in 2008. The hands are those of Barack Obama, who was then running for President. He holds good luck charms which he had collected, including a small statue of Hanuman, the four armed Hindu monkey god. President Obama recently visited Asia. Much of the attention was focused on his assurances of American military presence in light of new aggressiveness from both North Korea and China. What most media overlooked was the spiritual significance of his travels. Along with the obligatory banquets, speeches, and press conferences, the President took time to display his eclectic religious belief. He regularly reminds people that he is a “Christian” but goes out of his way to be syncretistic. In India he danced with Hindus to celebrate Diwali, an important holy day for Hindus. This may be seen as honoring the local culture of a country. But it seems that he’s making more of a universalist emphasis — that all religions are equally important and valid; that all faiths are one and that differences must be ignored in theology and conviction.

He is the President, and he should send a message that we respect all peoples and faiths. But helping to light a sacred fire to the Hindu goddess Lakshmi (wife of Vishnu, one of the three main Hindu gods), a demon I’ve dealt with, is a bit much for me. (Some Diwali rituals are directed at Ganesh the elephant god.) Diwali may be considered benignly as a “festival of lights,” but it’s better understood in Hinduism as the dispelling of ignorance with the transcendent experience of oneness with the universal god. Some Hindus worship not Lakshmi on this occasion but Kali (aka Jezebel), a decidedly virulent demon I’ve faced many occasions. Perhaps you think I make too much of this, but as an exorcist, watching our President pay homage to a demon, though he doubtless has no idea what he’s doing, isn’t a pleasant sight. And ignorance of participating in a religious ritual is no excuse for the curse it can cause on him and on our country. First Corinthians 10:20 makes it plain that the worship of false gods is the worship of demons.

An encouraging word:  ONE GOD“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). That is pretty hard to get around. One God. No other name that can save men (Acts 4:12). The Bible states this over and over (Joshua 22:22. Malachi 2;10, 1 Corinthians 8:6, Ephesians 4:6, James 2:19). The latter, James, tells us that even demons believe this truth. But much talk of religion today is about how all roads lead to the same place, all truth is one truth, and all gods are the same, just called by different names. That belief may be popular, but it’s not biblical. To think of the Lord as the One and True Living God of the Jews and Christians as being the only God can earn one the title of bigot; but it’s also the only true way to be a believer.

Friends

Monday, June 9, 2014

Friends. We all need them. Some are extra special, like they two men above. Pastor Roy has gone with me on several missions to Africa. Pastor Vivian is a leader in our DWJD (Do What Jesus Did) movement and has planted many DWJD deliverance teams all across the Midwest.

Our three seminars this past weekend in Toledo and Detroit were a huge success, due to the efforts of these men of God. Pastor Roy not only hosted our Toledo seminar but also provided transportation and sound equipment all weekend. I was in Detroit at the urging of Pastor Vivian. After many years of absence from the Motor City, he encouraged me to once again regularly come there.

I taught hundreds of people and ministered in public and private to dozens bound by Satan and saw them set free. I couldn’t have don’t it as effectively without these men. As the old Dionne Warwick song says, “That’s what friends are for.” Proverbs 18:24 reminds us there is a friend who is “closer than a brother.”

I think God that I have many friends like you who believe in our mission of spiritual warfare. As we enter the season of the summer slump, I must be honest. It doesn’t feel like I have many friends. Our finances are down far more than usual for this time of year. At a time when more people than ever are reaching out to us, we must remain financially strong. Thanks for being a friend who cares about our needs, and the cry for help from those we reach for Jesus.

Doing What Jesus Did, Pastor Bob Larson

P. S. Our anointed Cross of Deliverance is a great way to confront the devil. Satan fears this Cross. For your gift of $100 or more to fight our summer slump, I’ll anoint and set this Cross to you.

Bad Boy Bieber

Friday, June 6, 2014

He’s become known more for his bad behavior than his music, a male Miley Cyrus. Wild parties, strip clubs, smoking weed (and maybe more), temper tantrums, sexually alluring photos,  DUI arrests, erotic gestures on stage, arrogance, and now using the “N” word and talking about joining the KKK and killing black people. Okay, the latter comes from a video he did five years ago. He has issued the spin doctor requisite apology and supposedly has Will Smith and Usher on his side. This will probably blow over, but what’s really upsetting is this. He’s using the Bible and his supposed Christian faith to gloss it over. The Instagram post above was sent to his millions of followers, using Scripture as a grace cover for his stupidity. His mom, Pattie Mallette, claims to be a Christian and has even written a book about her and her boy, Nowhere but Up. In the book she describes constant sexual abuse as a child, starting at age three. She was date-raped at 14. She also used drugs, including LSD, shoplifted, and attempted suicide. In a mental ward she became a Christian, but fell into a sexual relationship and conceived Justin illegitimately. Bieber has been seen attending cool, seeker-friendly, hip churches in New York and Seattle in the midst of his outrageous escapades.

What is to be made of all this? First, I’m not judging the relationship with Christ he and his mother may or may not have. God alone knows. But behavior can certainly be judged, and the facts can be considered. From my perspective as an exorcist, Justin Bieber lives under an unbroken curse of illegitimacy. The churches he frequents deny such curses exist so he won’t get help there. His mother’s vulnerability to sexual abuse and suicide indicates a huge generational curse in her family bloodline. My heart goes out to both of them. They are only going to experience more and more dysfunction until someone with the knowledge of spiritual warfare steps in and takes action on their behalf.  Bieber can tweet and Instagram all the Bible verses he wants, but until he is delivered from the demons that torment his destiny, expect more erratic, bad boy behavior.

An encouraging word: JUDGING“Judge not,” says Matthew 7:1. This is one of the most misapplied Bible verses, and there isn’t space enough her to explain all that it really means. It doesn’t mean that any one, especially a Christian, gets a free ride for any kind of bad behavior. The warning of this scripture is that the person judging will be judged by the same standard that he judges. The emphasis IS NOT on avoiding all judging, but to not judge hypocritically and with malicious intent. In fact, Luke chapter six is instructive about judging the fruit of spirituality. Judgment that comes from legalism is destructive; judgment to reign in immorality can be appropriate and necessary.
